#4 John Shafe was air lifted to have wrist
surgery, and there is no word on when he
will be able to return to racing |
As the racing action was going on, there was
a big distraction on the track. John Shafe was
close behind Dustin Terry when Terry accidentally
missed a shift and lost control. Shafe tried to
avoid Terry and got clipped on his left side,
which caused Shafe to crash. As Shafe lay unconscious
on the track, Dustin Terry displayed the ultimate
gesture in sportsmanship. Forgetting about his
race, Terry parked his quad in front of Shafe
to shield him from passing traffic and helped
the track workers route racers away while medics
attended to Shafe. Shafe was unconscious for approximately
10 minutes before being airlifted to a nearby
hospital where he underwent surgery on his wrist
to repair the break and extensive nerve and tendon
damage. There is no word yet as to how long Shafe
will be out of racing. According to John’s
family, he will be released from the hospital
in the next day or two and seeing a specialist
to evaluate the extent of his wrist injury.

TJ Dietrich Wins the Overall in the Open
Pro Class |
In the Open Pro class, TJ Dietrich came on strong
with a 2-1 finish, earning his first overall win
of the season. In the main, Dietrich came off
the line with impressive speed. Dietrich held
off Polaris’s Doug Eichner and the #322
Kawasaki of Clayton Endes, despite the intense
pressure from both riders. Dietrich kept his cool
and rode smart and consistent taking the win as
they crossed the finish line in the Open Pro main.
Clayton Endes, who took a 1-3 finish, his strongest
performance so far this season, claimed 2nd place
on the podium, with Doug Eichner in the #3 spot.
Roberto Villalobos took 4th overall with a 5-4
finish and Darrell Patton who ran a strong, consistent
race rounded out the top 5 in Open Pro.
Can-Am/Motowork’s Dillon Zimmerman was
having an impressive showing in the 1st half of
the 265-450 Expert class. Dillon claimed the win
in the first moto, but in moto 2, Zimmerman suffered
a nasty spill and injured his elbow, which sent
him back to 11th place and earned him 5th overall.
David Haagsma took the win, followed by Kody Evans
in 2nd and Brady Hayes in 3rd.
The next round of the ITP Quadcross will be on
June 21st, which is a Saturday, and held under
the nighttime skies at Speedworld MX in Surprise,
AZ. The nighttime event is a favorite among spectators
and racers alike and offers up it’s own
unique challenges due to the evening lighting.
Editor’s Note: We at ATVriders.com would
like to extend our well wishes to John Shafe and
his family and wish him the best for a speedy
and full recovery.
