Sponsored Zakowski Motorsports Team (Zach
Zakowski, Scott Kilby, Kevin Trantham) Takes
the Utility Class Win |
In the Pro Utility class, the Zakowski Motorsports
team of Zachary Zakowski, Scott Kilby and Kevin
Trantham would have their hands full as they battled
with the Warnert Racing team, but Zakowski Motorsports
seemed to have a perfect race going and took what
appeared to be an effortless win.
“It felt really good to take that win.
We had a great program set up for this race, thanks
to GBC Tires and all of our sponsors, and we were
able to come out here and hold it together for
ten hours,” said Scott Kilby, who plans
on returning to defend the team’s championship
next year.

The
he Zakowski Motorsports team of Zachary
Zakowski, Scott Kilby and Kevin Trantham
ran a flawless race from day to night to
secure the Pro Utility Class win with ease
over the 2x Champion, Warnert Racing Team |
The Warnert Racing team of Michael Swift, Bryan
Buckhannon, and Cliff Beasley, who were the previous
years’ winners, ran into a few issues this
time around that cost them time. Michael Swift
was the first rider out and he would take over
the lead by lap two. Swift held his position for
several laps and then Beasley took over. Beasley
was only able to complete a couple of laps before
the quad started to have issues, so Beasley pulled
into the pits for a switch. Bryan Buckhannon then
took over, but only two laps out on the new quad,
the clutch assembly would overheat, causing a
belt to blow. The team was catching back up, but
then, in lap 28, Michael Swift was gaining ground
on the Zakowski team when disaster struck.

The
2 Time Champion, Warnert Racing team of
Michael Swift, Bryan Buckhannon, and Cliff
Beasley dealt with their fair share of issues
early in the race, which kept them off the
top of the box, but the secured the 2nd
spot |

Iowa's
Homestate favorites, FD Racing, had their
share of bad luck & finished out the
day in 3rd place |
“It was dark and hard to see back in the
woods and I ended up getting stuck in a mud hole
and had to be towed out,” explained Swift,
who was buried up to his fenders in the thick
sticky mud. It took over 15 minutes and two other
4x4 quads to pull Swift out and unfortunately,
by that time, the team was too far behind to catch
the Zakowski Motorsports team and was forced to
settle for second.
“Well, I guess we can’t win them all.
If we did then everyone else would quit!”
quipped Swift, who was in good spirits despite the
team’s second place finish.
The hometown favorites, FD Racing, were stricken
with bad luck throughout the race. In the first
lap, the team would lose a machine when the rear
end froze up going over a log obstacle at the
finish line, and from there the team suffered
several more setbacks, but they would hang on
to take a third place finish in the Pro Utility
class.
