CMRC ATV Motocross
Racing - Pro ATV Race
Report
::Continued::
|
As night settled on OCD Parry Sound the
stars came out with a full moon to grace
the pit area with some ambient light |
The Gee camp would prostest of the engine of Yamaha
racer Jasmin Plante as they feared it was not of
regulation size.
Proper paperwork and filings were underway immediately
after the second moto one Saturday.
As it turned out, the motor was legal as far
as CC’s were concerned so questions were
put to rest as the racers tucked in for the night
as well in order to conserve energy for Sunday.
ROUND
9
- SUNDAY
ATV MOTOS
|
Sunday AM rolled around and the racers were ready
on the sandy gate as they prepared their machines
for the ever important start.
James Bank would grab the holeshot and early
lead but would soon be passed by Plante who was
right on the KTM rider’s heals through the
first turns. Bank would finish his day in third
place overall after going 4-3 on the day just
behind Plante in second (3-2), and Gee in first
(1-1)
|
KTM's James
Bank was first to the pylon but would
soon be overtaken by Yamaha's Jasmin Plante
who was on a mission to the front of the
pack as well
|
Greg Gee was part of a numbers game on Sunday
as the racers headed to the line. Even if Gee
could take both wins on Sunday and Pelchat was
able to stay in 2nd place, Pelchat would still
win the Cup by a single point.
Gee would go out for moto one and secure a commanding
lead and the win! After going out and quickly
securing the lead after passing Plante on the
first lap, he would begin to build his lead before
crossing the finish line 20 minutes later.
|
|
Spastic's
Greg Gee would come out swinging hard
in both motos on Sunday securing the win
easily in moto one as Pelchat & Plante
played catch up behind him
|
Gee
would then come out again hard in the second
moto with the lead as he led Pelchat &
Plante around the course for a few laps
before being overtaken by Pelchat |
Greg Gee was sitting in just the right position
to make a run for the championship as he lines
up on the gate for moto two. Knowing even if he
finished first and Pelchat in second, that Pelchat
would take the championship for the 8th time,
Gee was set out to mix-up the pack a bit for moto
two. Gee would launch off the line and again take
an early lead with Pelchat, Plante, and Bank in
tow.
|
Gee was right on the rear bumper of Pelchat
in the final moments of the second moto
on Sunday when out of nowhere, Pelchat's
quad shut down & was forced to move
off to the side of the track & watch
as Gee went on to take the win |
Eight laps into the moto a turn of events would
come as Pelchat would slip by Gee on the step-up
by the mechanic’s area and take over the lead.
The next lap, Plante would also try to slip by Gee
in the exact same spot but would not succeed.
Gee would then begin to work aggressively on
the Can-Am mounted rider, Pelchat, as they rounded
each corner. Bar to bar and wheel to wheel, the
two riders rubbed tread coming into and out of
each corner with Pelchat retaining his lead until
the second to last lap. As the front runners screamed
down the back stretch of big downhill doubles,
the Can-Am of Pelchat suddenly, and without warning,
simply shut off mid-jump.This would allow Honda’s
Greg Gee to go on and take the moto win and his
first ever Canada Cup Championship!
|
Greg Gee & mechanic Ryan Rusaw celebrate
after Gee's victory at OCD Parry Sound Raceway
for the 2010 Canada Cup! |
This marks a pinnacle in Gee’s career and
he was ecstatic after the win; “I’m
so happy right now! We’ve worked so hard
for this championship, we gave up running all
of the AMA Nationals to come up here, in my home
country and secure a win! We did what we set out
to do and it came right down to the wire! I didn’t
want it to come down to winning because another
guy’s quad broke, but that’s racing
sometimes.”
