Henderson, NV - The Henderson 250
was the final stop for the 2013 Best in the Desert
Series, and GBC’s Cody Mitchell took home his first
Pro ATV win of the year followed by Keith Carlson
in second. CT Racing’s David Scott and Danny Prather
rounded out the podium, which was more than enough
to wrap up their third straight Best in the Desert
Pro ATV Championship.

The Best in the Desert Henderson 250 race
started before sunrise at 6:15AM with Q83
Cody Mitchell & Q11 Trent Kendall first
off the line for the Pro ATV Class |
Despite chilling temperatures, gusty winds, and
snow showers, the Best in the Desert ATV racers
bundled up and prepared to take on the less than
desirable conditions as well as the rugged terrain
that the Silver State had to offer. ATV racers
would complete three laps that were roughly 47
miles each for total of just over 140 miles from
start to finish. The Pro ATV racers started the
race shortly after 6:15 am start, following the
Pro Motorcycles.
Q83 Cody Mitchell and Q11 Trent Kendall were
the first Pro ATV racers to leave the starting
line, and Mitchell would quickly take over the
lead aboard his Honda 450r. Leading the race from
start to finish, the Moose/GBC backed rider took
the checkered flag with a time of 2:39:40. Not
only did he take top ATV honors for the day at
the BITD Henderson 250, but he won with a commanding
eight minute lead over second place and finished
ninth overall. The win gave him the points he
needed to secure second overall in pro points
for the Best in the Desert series.

Q83 Cody Mitchell lead the race from start
to finish to secure his first win of the
year & finished second in the Best in
the Desert Pro ATV Championship |
“It was perfect. I didn’t have any problems it
was just gas and go all day,” Mitchell stated
about his victory.
Suzuki racer Q5 of Keith Carlson raced his Quadracer
to the checkered flag, earning himself a second
place finish for the day. Carlson had added pressure
throughout the last half of the race from point’s
leaders Danny Prather and David Scott who finished
the race just over a minute Carlson with adjusted
time. Although it was an intense race, he was
able to withstand the frigid temperatures and
mountainous obstacles to secure his runner up
position for the BITD Henderson 250.

Q5 Keith Carlson finished in the second
spot despite suffering a five minute penalty
for an unintentional course deviation |
It was an eventful day for Elka/Roll Design’s
defending champions Danny Prather and David Scott.
Knowing they had an extensive points lead and
only needed to finish the race, they played it
safe to assure that their Honda 450r crossed the
finish line safely to capture the Best in the
Desert title. Although there were no intense battles
during the race, the events that played out leading
to their podium finish were interesting.
|
Q1 David Scott started the race for the
reigning champions, and even with the Best
in the Desert Championship on the line,
he stopped to help a motorcycle racer that
went down during the race, which set him
back nearly 10 minutes on the leader |
Team rider David Scott showed true sportsmanship
when he encountered a downed rider during the
middle of the race. Instead of continuing passed
him, Scott stayed beside his fellow rider until
another rider could sty with the down rider and
Scott went for help. Once he notified the BITD
officials, he pushed on through the desert to
get the quad to his teammate Danny Prather.
