Best in the Desert Henderson
250 ATV Race Report
::continued::
It was a championship well earned as Danny Prather
almost had to back out of racing the Henderson
250. On November 30, his wife gave birth to a
5lb. 14.oz baby girl named Allison and the possibility
of going out of state to race didn’t seem likely.
However, Prather and his wife agreed that racing
with his team to help secure the championship
was important and that he should participate in
the race.
|
Q1 Danny Prather took the CT Racing / Maxxis
Honda 450R to the finish line with a third
place finish to secure the Best in the Desert
Pro ATV Championship |
"I really wanted to be here for this. It's
a real important race for us to try to do well
and wrap up the championship," Prather mentioned
shortly after the race.
|
Q1 David Scott & Danny Prather claimed
their third straight Best in the Desert
Championship with three wins in the four
round series |
The hard work was well worth the effort as the
team not only celebrated their successful season,
but their second consecutive BITD championship.
IMS/Moose rider Joe Ramos rode a consistent
race despite the less than ideal weather conditions,
taking fourth for the day with a time of 3:02:36.
Despite falling short of the podium for this event,
he finished in the BITD top three for the year
in the Pro ATV class..
In the Quad Expert class, Travis Dillon ran a
flawless race to take the win for the team including
Juan and Alonzo Dominguez to take Best in the
Desert Championship Quad Expert class Championship.
Dillon finished with an impressive time of 2:42:04,
which had him finishing eleventh overall on the
day. It was their third win of the year as they
dominated the Quad Expert class this season.

Travis Dillon ran solo in the Quad Expert
Class & finished with an impressive
11th overall finish for the win, which secured
the Best in the Desert Championship for
Alonzo Dominguez the rider of record |
An enthusiastic Dillon commented on his exciting
ride saying, "When I raced here last year,
we each did a lap and a half each, but it was
a lot more fun to do all three laps. You do one
lap and you see the course, and from there on
out you are on rails for the second and third
laps."
The Amsoil Team of Paul Engen, Gregory Ochoa,
and Dustin Tanguay finished in second place, but
they only completed two laps with a time of 2:45:54.
Rounding out the podium in the Quad Expert Class
was another 3 man team of Jose Torres, Gilbert
Davila, and Jeremy Gray. The trio braved both
the weather and the rugged terrain finishing the
event with a time of 3:10:51.

#460 Jeff Barker, Tommy Johnson & Mitch
Franklin claimed the Quad Amateur Class
Win on their Suzuki LTZ 400 |
In the Quad Amateur class, it was another triple
effort by team riders Jeff Barker, Mitch Franklin,
and Tommy Johnson taking the win aboard their
Suzuki ride. With a time of 2:46:26, the Summer
Son Synthetics/Amsoil team celebrated on the top
of the podium despite the snow showers that had
moved into the area.
|
#607 Keith Blatt claimed the Quad Ironman
Expert Class Win on his Yamaha Raptor |
Despite the uncomfortable weather conditions
and a few crashes, the race was incredibly exciting
and rewarding for the newly crowned champions.
Whether it was sponsored teams or solo privateers,
everybody came together for one reason, the love
of racing off-road.
With the final round of the 2013 Best in the
Desert Series in the history books, the racers
will have the chance to start fresh on January
11th when the BITD series hosts the Parker 250
as round one of the of the 2014 season in Parker,
Arizona.
