ATVCCS Kicks off 2011
Season at The Pit
::Continued::
Anthony was making up some time but he’d
lost too much ground at the beginning of the race
to make a serious challenge. Boyer held on to
third and Howell finished fourth. Chanan Morrison,
who is the defending champ from last year, looked
very good and was able to win the Lady’s
class with ease. Claire Howell and Jennifer Hahne
had a little battle going on for the first lap
but Claire really took charge on the second lap
and gapped Jennifer.
After race you could see how much the race took
out of Jennifer, she was spent. In the Youth class
we had Travis Jenkins and Treyton Collins lined
up against one another. Travis got the holeshot
and never looked back. Treyton had an encounter
with a tree on the first lap was never able to
recover to become a threat. Travis took the win
by more than eight minutes over Treyton. In the
Utility class is was the men from Louisiana doing
battle.

When I saw these riders headed to the starting line
with their muddin, jacked up, snorkeled out, machines
I couldn’t help but think they were going
to be in for big surprise. The surprise was on me.
When Josh Schenck, and Brad Defatta hit the moto
track it was something else. They aired it out,
wow, I never would have thunk it. They both did
a great job and the win went to Josh and second
to Brad.
The last race of the day was the Buddy Race.
As always this race was a hoot. Just for fun the
riders all pitched in some money for a winner
take all. Riders were allowed to pick their own
teams this time so it looked like the racing was
really staked in favor for the quad young guns
Caleb Hamm and Mac Young but there was a sleeper
lurking in the background. A couple guys on dirt
bikes heard about the winner take all pot and
decided they wanted some of that action. Well
when the flag flew for the start; the KX-450 dirt
bike was banging the rev limiter. Teddy Moody
was the first rider on the dirt bike and even
though gave it a real good college try he dropped
in the first wood section in fourth place. But
a fortunate turn of event found the door open
for the lead when the lead quad got jacked up
on a tree and had the other quads stacked behind.
Teddy took the lead and held it for the first
lap then he handed off to his partner, David King,
who had not even rode the track yet. The unfamiliarity
of track was just enough for Mac to move his quad
into the lead. Once out front Caleb and Mac were
able to run away with the win. This concludes
Saturday, now it’s time to get something
to eat.

It is now Sunday morning and the Sun was trying
to break through the overcast skies. Dennis Wilson
came down to lead Church Service for us and to
share the word of God with all of us before riders
meeting. I can’t say how cool it is to have
a racer in your series who is so dedicated to
God and who is kind enough to share the message
with the rest of us. Riders meeting was a lot
of the same ole same ole for those who have raced
with us for years but it’s full of useful
information for the new riders. Let’s get
to the racing. On the start of the Expert class
Gerald Dowden took his number one machine into
the first corner for the holeshot but the younger
guys were right on his heels.
