X Pro ATV Race Report Continued - Moto One
For the Sunday Pro Motos, the weather was picture perfect,
which attracted a large crowd of spectators out to watch
the Pro racing action. The start of the first Moto had
Joe Byrd grabbing the ATVriders.com Holeshot Award with
Cale Downen and Jeremy Lawson in tow with Yamaha’s
Pat Brown getting a late jump off the line starting near
the rear of he pack.

Joe Byrd grabbing the ATVriders.com Moto One Holeshot
Award |
By the end of the first lap, Joe Byrd remained out
front followed by Downen and Lawson with Lawson making
his move into second by the end of the next lap. Amazingly,
Pat Brown, charged his way through the pack and up into
fourth place followed by Brock Lyons and John Ragon.

Cale Downen leading Pat Brown |
The top six riders broke up into individual battles
with Byrd and Lawson battling for the lead followed
by Downen and Brown battling for the third spot with
Lyons and Ragon battling for the fifth spot. Out front
the battle was intense between Byrd and Lawson as they
pair bounced off each other several times with Lawson
taking over the lead only to have Byrd regain the spot.
Lawson eventually took over the lead and began to pull
nearly a two second lead over Byrd and appeared to be
well on his way to victory with only a few laps to go
before Byrd closed the gap and the battle was on once
again for the lead.
At the end of the 11th lap, Byrd made his move on Lawson
heading into the “Six Pack’ rhythm section
before the finish with the pair colliding and Byrd coming
out in front. Once Lawson got back on the track, it
was like the air was let out of his sail as he appeared
to put it in cruise control for the remainder of the
race to easily secure the second spot behind Byrd.

#199 Pat Brown |
The battle for third was just as intense between Downen
and Brown as the pair raced around the track with Brown
shadowing Downen for 11 laps, but once Brown made his
move to take over the third spot, Downen also dropped
well off his blistering pace and finished over 10 seconds
behind Brown at the checkered flag and the same was
also true for Lyons and Ragon as they battled for several
laps with Ragon taking over the fifth spot with Lyons
holding onto sixth place with Shane Cochran applying
the pressure till the finish line.
