AMA ATV MX Nationals
- Loretta Lynn's- Pro ATV Race Report
::Continued::
Walsh Race Craft’s Jeremy Lawson came up
from a mid-pack start in moto one to finish in
sixth place and came on strong in moto two. Lawson
came off the line in fifth place and took over
the number four spot in the fifth lap after battling
it out with Travis Moore.
From there Lawson closed in on Chase Snapp and
made the pass late in the race, giving him third
at the checkered flag. Lawson’s 6-3 finishes
gave him fourth overall on the day and third in
the pro points championship.
Yamaha/Ballance Racing’s Thomas Brown put
in a solid effort after a mid-pack start. Brown
charged hard and made his way around both Jeremy
Lawson and Joe Byrd at the midway point to take
over the number four spot, where he would stay
until reaching the checkered flag in Moto one
Brown got off to a rough start in moto two when
he wrecked halfway through the first lap. Brown
was not deterred and put in a good charge and
was able to make his way up from last to eighth
place before crossing the finish line. Brown’s
efforts allowed him to round out the top five
overall for the day and put him in a respectable
fourth in points at season’s end.
Mushin Racing’s Travis Moore shadowed Jeremy
Lawson for most of the first moto, eventually
taking a seventh place finish. Moore got a good
start in the second moto as he came off the line
in fourth. Moore would eventually finish in seventh
once again after battling it out with Jeremy Lawson
and Nick DeNoble. Moore’s 7-7 finishes gave
him sixth overall for the day and put him in ninth
in points in his rookie year.
Can-Am’s Chase Snapp came off the start
in second right behind Joel Hetrick in moto one.
The two rookies battled relentlessly for several
laps that ended with Snapp taking over the lead.
Snapp led for a couple of laps and looked as if
he could be on his way to a moto win, but his
charge ended abruptly when his chain derailed,
which forced him to the sidelines. Snapp was able
to remount the chain and charged his back up into
the top ten before the checkered flag.
In the second moto, Chase Snapp and John Natalie,
Jr. got together, but Natalie got the worse end
of the deal and Snapp would take off in the number
three spot off the start. Snapp held on for most
of the race and only fell back when he came under
fire from Jeremy Lawson and John Natalie. Snapp
finished fifth in moto two, giving him seventh
overall and allowing him to place sixth in series
points.
Houser Racing’s Harold Goodman rode a solid
race in moto one and would finish in eighth place.
Goodman followed it up with a ninth place finish
in moto two, giving him eighth overall and putting
him just outside of the top ten in points in the
number eleven spot.
American Honda’s Joe Byrd got a decent
start as he came off the line in third in moto
one. Byrd held his position for a few laps before
Natalie and Upperman would get by. Byrd eventually
finished in fifth place. Byrd was in the top ten
off the start and was making progress working
through traffic, but tapered off at the mid-way
point and fell to a twelfth place finish in moto
two, giving him ninth overall. Byrd, who has encountered
his fair share of bad luck this season, rounded
out the top ten in pro points.
Nick DeNoble ran into issues right off the start
in Moto one when his gas tank vapor locked, which
brought his charge to a stop, and his issues continued
with a mechanical issue later in the Moto, which
dropped him back to a 14th place finish. DeNoble
was able to redeem himself in moto two, finishing
in sixth place and rounding out the top ten overall.
DeNoble’s efforts earned him the number
eight spot in points.
Adam Clark held on to take 11-11 finishes, putting
him in eleventh overall for the final round of
the season, while Devin Heimes would go 9-13 for
twelfth. Derek Swartfager took a thirteenth place
finish overall with Ronnie Higgerson in fourteenth
and Jonathon Ven John finished fifteenth. TQRA
series pro Johnny Hale made the trek to Tennessee
for the final round, but Lady Luck was not on
his side and he would end his day in sixteenth
overall.
ATVRiders.com would like to congratulate John
Natalie, Jr. as the new champ, and the Can-Am/Motoworks
team on their first-ever AMA Pro ATV Motocross
Championship. Look for a full interview with John
Natalie, Jr. to be posted in the near future.
