Upperman
took second at Unadilla round 9 followed
closely by Natalie in third |
Despite his broken arm, the Ironman was still
able to put in an impressive performance, finishing
in the top ten overall at round eight, which put
him into the points lead. At round nine at Unadilla,
Natalie seemed to be back to almost 100% and he
charged his way to finish on the podium in third.
Natalie’s injury did, however, allow Josh
Upperman to close in on the points lead and come
within striking distance, but Natalie doesn’t
seem to be too worried.
“By the time we go to Red Bud, I should
be back to about 100% and I don’t plan to
let this championship slip away. I plan on going
to Red Bud to win, and I plan to give Can-Am a
championship!” he said confidently.
Meanwhile, Baldwin Motorsports’ Josh Upperman,
who has been the most consistent racer in the
series, but had yet to take an overall win this
season, was settling in and expecting to be in
the top three going in to round number seven,
but with Chad Wienen out, Upperman soon found
himself in second in points and getting closer
to what could be a serious upset to the Can-Am/Motoworks
team, if he were to take over the points lead.

With a new found motivation, Upperman came on
strong at round eight of the series and took his
first overall win of the season, propelling him
closer to the lead and boosting his confidence
in the process.

Co. 's Josh Upperman took his first 2011
AMA ATV MX Pro Season win at Sunday Creek
MX |
“It was a great feeling to take that win.
I had been trying for it all season and for it
to finally happen was like a weight being lifted,”
said Upperman, who followed it up with second
overall at round number nine, bringing him within
three points of leader, John Natalie.
With the possibility of a championship on the
line, Upperman has stepped up his training program
and is employing new tactics that he is hoping
will help him to beat Natalie at Red Bud.
“I’m going to be doing some extra
training and trying a few new things that I am
hoping will give me an edge when I go to Red Bud.
At the start of the season, I was shooting for
the top three, but now I’m in the running
for the championship. I’m just going to
go out there and try my best. I’d really
like to win, but no matter what happens, I’ll
be happy because I’ve been training hard
and I’m pretty happy with my performance
so far this year,” said Upperman.

Racing's Jeremy Lawson currently sits third
in the AMA ATV MX Pro Points aboard his
Walsh Race Craft prepped Suzuki LTR 450
ATV |
Walsh Race Craft’s Jeremy Lawson has had perhaps
his most consistent season to date. Lawson has finished
in the top five all but one round and has made his
way to the number three spot in the pro points race.
Coming up from mid-pack has become the norm for
Lawson this season, as he hasn’t gotten amazing
starts, but he has managed to battle his way through
traffic with speed and precision.
If Lawson is able to maintain his consistency
he will be untouchable in the number three spot
at the end of the season. At round seven, Lawson
was looking strong and fast as he charged his
way to the podium in third overall and followed
it up with a couple of fourth place finishes at
Sunday Creek and Unadilla. “This has been
a good season for me. We have the bike dialed
in and I’ve been working hard. I still would
like to get a win, and I hope that happens at
Red Bud. I like that track and I usually do well
there,” said Lawson.
