Can-Am
/ Motoworks' Chad Wienen locked wheels with
Harold Goodman in Moto One with Wienen going
6-9 for 9th Overall |
Can-Am/Motoworks’ Chad Wienen was the fastest
qualifier once again, but he got off to a slow start
when he and Harold Goodman got tangled up on the
start, and Wienen had his work cut out for him in
the slick mud. Wienen charged hard, but visibility
became an issue and Wienen would only be able to
work his way up to sixth place before running out
of time. “I tried as hard as I could, but
I couldn’t see out there and I got a lot of
mud in my eyes, so it made it tough,” stated
Wienen disappointedly.
Wienen again had problems in moto two as he got
off to a mid-pack start. Wienen battled with Josh
Upperman, but would only claim an eighth place
finish in moto two, giving him ninth overall.
Derek Swartfager started off in Mid-pack, but
fell back to 11th place shortly into moto one.
The mud worked to his advantage however, as it
caused several other racers to have issues, which
let Swartfager move back into ninth before crossing
the finish line. Swartfager hung on for a tenth
place finish in moto two, which allowed him to
round out the top ten overall.
Deven Heimes grabbed a pair of twelfth place
finishes that put him in 11th overall. Joel Hetrick
made his debut aboard his Honda, but also had
a tough time in the mud as he would finish in
11th place for the first moto and 13th in moto
two, putting him in 12th overall. Adam Clark would
go 15-11 for 13th overall, while Jonathon Ven
John took 15th overall.
American Honda’s Joe Byrd was in mid-pack
start and picked off Lawson in lap six, but Byrd
appeared to be having trouble and fell back to
finish in 13th place and did not race in moto
two, giving him fourteenth overall for the day.
Round five of the 2011 AMA ATV Motocross Championships
will head to Sunset Ridge in Walnut IL, on May
7th – 8th where teammates John Natalie and
Chad Wienen will be battling to see if Natalie
can hold the pro points lead.
