Danville,
VA – Yellow,
Green, and Red were all represented on the podium
at round four of the AMA ATV Motocross championship
series where Suzuki’s Dustin Wimmer took a
hard fought win against Kawasaki’s Chad Wienen
and Honda’s Joe Byrd.
An intense points battle has been brewing between
current champ Dustin Wimmer and ‘06-‘07
champ Joe Byrd. With only one point separating
them going into this round, and Chad Wienen thrown
into the mix, anticipation was high for some incredible
racing action, and the trio did not disappoint.
Dustin Wimmer, who was a little off his game
at round three, made a comeback for round four.
Wimmer came off the line in third in moto one,
but soon was pressuring Joe Byrd for second. Wimmer’s
efforts paid off in the second lap as he too over
second and began to chase down Chad Wienen. Despite
recording the fastest lap time of the moto in
lap four, Wimmer was not able to get around Wienen
and had to settle for a second place finish.

The
battle for the lead between Chad Wienen
& Dustin Wimmer in Moto One kept everyone
attention glued to the racing action as
Wimmer shadowed Wienen from the 3rd lap
to the checkered, but was never able to
make the pass |
In moto two, Wimmer had a good start, but got
bumped around in the first corner, which sent
him back several positions. “I just put
my head down and started working my way up. In
about the 8th lap I caught up to Wienen and Byrd
and went for the pass on the back stretch,”
said Wimmer, who took the moto win and the overall.

In
Moto 2, it was a three way battle for the
lead between Joe Byrd, Chad Wienen &
Dustin Wimmer with Wimmer in the 3rd spot
till the 8th lap, when he made the pass
on both Wienen & Byrd to take over the
lead. Wimmer maintained the lead till the
checkered flag to claim his 3rd win of the
season |
“The bike performed well and I felt comfortable
out there. I’m glad I was able to put a
little bit more of a gap between Joe (Byrd) and
I in points. Even if it is only a few points,
it’s a little less pressure for me,”
said Wimmer after the race.
