Kaska, PA (5/6/2009) - Two national
events in one weekend, is a tough thing to do, but
I was able to make it happen! I left the warm but
muddy track conditions in Tennessee at the GNCC
race on Saturday, and headed to the cool, high elevations
of Northern California on Sunday for round 4 of
the WORCS racing series. I not only pulled it off,
but also came out of it all with a GNCC holeshot
and top ten finish on Saturday and a WORCS podium
finish on Sunday!
It all started on Thursday when I left my house
for the long drive to Tennessee, it took us 14
hours, and once we got there we didn’t like
he looks of the weather. Friday afternoon, it
was pouring rain all day and didn’t look
like it was going to stop. I prepped my new Yamaha
for the mud, and installed a set of Powermadd
gauntlet handgaurds to keep my hands dry.

Jarrod McClure
built a brand new Yamaha YFZ450 for Round
6 of the GNCC Series, but if he knew the
race conditions ahead of time, he might
not have broke it in at the Titan mud
fest

Saturday morning was no better, the rain had
let up but it was still overcast skies, and there
was water laying everywhere. I headed to the starting
line, and awaited the green flag. As we raced
to the first turn I battled with Taylor Kiser
for the holeshot. I edged him out, but I got pushed
wide in the second turn dropping a few positions.

The track was super muddy. This was the first
muddy race of the year, and also my first muddy
race on the Yamaha. My plan was to just keep moving
forward and pick smart lines. Plan failed! I got
stuck in a mud hole a few miles into the race,
allowing a big pack of riders to get by. I regrouped
and got moving again, but found myself stuck a
few more times during the race during the first
two laps.
I rode with Bill Ballance for the whole third
lap trying to learn some new lines, but nearing
the pits my YFZ sucked water and was hard to keep
running allowing Bill to pull away. I rode the
last lap with the quad spitting and sputtering
with my fingers crossed, and when I seen the checkered
flag I was in tenth. I was happy to have even
finished, but my race was far from over. Now it
was trying to make it to the airport!

Jarrod McClure
ran into his share of issues in the deep
mud, and found himself stuck several times,
which dropped him back to a 10th place
finish, which has him currently 9th in
Pro Points

I immediately got changed, and jumped on William
Yokely’s MV Polaris along with Marc Spataro
from Moto Pro Training. William gave us a ride
through the muddy pits to the rental car parked
up by the road. Marc and I hit the rode, and made
it to the Nashville airport with no time to spare.
We flew into Sacramento, CA and from there we
had a three-hour drive to the track. We arrived
at the hotel in Reno, around midnight and finally
got some rest.
