Jarrod McClure's Race Report
With WORCS Podium & GNCC Holeshot
::Continued::
Sunday morning we headed over to the track in
Milford, CA, and I heard talk that it was going
to be muddy. I was looking forward to a little
bit of mud, because all of the WORCS races so
far were dusty. Josh Fredrick filled me in on
the track. He told me about the rock sections,
and some of the jumps. It was a fast track with
a lot of ups and downhills, and a very tame motocross.
It sounded like my kind of track!
I had my Honda pretty much ready to go, thanks
to Mike Cafro. I flew out to his house last week,
and prepped the quad. I also did some testing
with Mike and Doug Roll and had my 450R working
a lot better. All I had to do at the track was
put some new clutch plates in and I was ready
to go.
Time came to stage and head to the start. Due
to the fact I had just arrived on Sunday, I didn’t
have a chance to practice, or even see the track,
so I used the parade lap to try and see what I
was in for. I lined up on the outside of the start
gate. The gate dropped and all 20 pros were headed
to the first turn, it was a fast first turn! I
fell in line about fifth place going into the
off-road section.

The first couple laps I kept the leaders in sight
and just tried to learn the track. I could see Doug
Eichner leading, followed by Sage Baker, Beau Baron
and Dustin Nelson. I had a nice pace set and was
able to pass Sage and Doug who had dropped back.
I was sitting in third when Josh Fredrick came by
me he was moving good and I tried to hang with him
for a while, but his Can Am was just pulling away
from me on the long up-hills.
I pitted under the Motoworks tent with help from
Marc and also John Widdle. A quick splash of fuel
and I was off. I then caught Dustin Nelson and
we had a good battle going for about a lap and
a half. It was just like Washington last year,
he would pull a little on the mx track but I would
catch him in the rocks. Finally after eating a
lot of dust and rocks I got by Nelson and set
my sights on second place. I pushed hard but I
couldn’t reel in Josh and Beau. I finished
the race in the final spot of the podium! I was
happy to be back up there, it is definitely a
huge confidence booster.

All in all it was an exciting weekend for me
and also a successful one. My training program
was definitely put to the test running back to
back nationals. I felt great both days and even
after another brutal two-hour race I felt like
I could have pushed even longer! I’d like
to thank Moto Pro Training for all the help again
this year, and especially Marc Spataro for making
the trip to California with me. With out his driving
skills we would have missed the plane!
I’d also like to thank Mike Cafro for taking
me in at his house last weekend and helping me
wrench on my quad, between rounds. He even gave
me a few lessons on desert racing that he probably
wished he wouldn’t have!
Also a big thanks again to Motoworks
for helping me out in the pits and all my other
