- Winchester Bay, Oregon
::Continued::

Riders
could escape from the chaos at Winchester
Bay, which boats the tallest sand dunes
on the Oregon coast |
Bonus Features One could easily
spend the entire festival milling around the event
activities but should you choose to venture outside
of the event area what you’ll find is nothing
short of spectacular. Winchester Bay boasts the
tallest sand dunes on the Oregon coast and offers
terrain ranging from steep hills, to sandy trails
and huge bowls. One of the more picturesque duning
areas in the world, you’ll find tree islands
and small streams scattered throughout.

The
View from on top the Dunes |
One of the more popular areas outside of the
event location is Banshee Hill. Anytime, day or
night, you can find a group of people racing up
this hour glass shaped hill as it snakes its way
through the trees before opening up on the tallest
dune in the area. The view from atop Banshee hill
is spectacular and gives you a real picture of
just how many people attend this festival as it
looks down upon the main event site.
If the busyness of Banshee Hill isn’t quite
your thing, just head out to the open dunes where
you can escape the throngs of people and enjoy the
dunes however you see fit. The shifting sand creates
some excellent dunes for jumping and equally as
exciting are the massive bowls found in the area.
If you’ve got the stomach for it, punch the
throttle and feel the g-forces as you come down
off of one of these monsters.
DuneFest above all is a family event. The promoters
work hard to create a family friendly environment
where everyone can get involved and safely enjoy
themselves throughout the entirety of the festival.
For that reason, alcohol is not allowed on the
dunes or in any of the sand camps.
There are an endless number of camping options
but for those who prefer more luxurious accommodations,
condos are available for rent with dune access
right out of the garage. Fees vary depending on
location and length of stay but every attendee
must purchase an event bracelet to gain access
to the dunes and the event area. Bracelets run
$40 for adults and $25 for 6-12 year olds. Daily
passes are available at a reduced rate as well.
