Geocaching
: A New ATV & UTV / SxS Riding Experience
::Continued::
Many geocaching enthusiasts leave an item in
the box. These items are called trackables. Each
trackable has a unique code etched on them which
is used to log its movements as it travels through
the world. According to geocaching.com, many trackables
have traveled hundreds of thousands of miles.
This is achieved when a person finds a cache and
takes a trackable and then deposits it in another
cache. If enough people do this, the trackable
can indeed travel the world. There are three main
types of trackables -- Travel Bugs, Geocoins and
other trackables.

Geocaching
aboard an ATV is a fun experience that gives
the opportunity to explore new trails that
you would not normally explore! |
Travel Bugs are attached to an item called a
“hitchhiker” and each has a goal set
by its owner. These goals are travel related and
can include the wish that the bug visits every
country in Europe, travel coast to coast, etc.
Geocoins are customizable coins created by a
person or a group of geocachers. It serves as
something like a signature item or calling card.
People who find geocoins in a cache are encouraged
to take one to another cache. Other trackables
include patches, key rings or some other item
that has an ID code and text on it that defines
it as a trackable.

Geocaching
is great activity for ATV Clubs & group
rides |
One ATV club that is doing geocaching is The
Ravalli County Off-Road User Association in Hamilton,
Montana. The club’s website is: http://www.rcorua.org.
According to past president Mike Jeffords, The
association was created in 2005. “A group
of gear heads were tired of what was going on
with Forest Service road closures. So about 400
banded together and became The Ravalli County
Off-Road User Association,” said Jeffords.
“We started working with the Forest Service
to keep the roads open to ATV’ers and motorcyclists.
The group promotes access for everybody.”
