ATV &
Snowmobile Trail Riding Moab, Utah
::Continued::
|
The
famous Colorado River helped carve out the
canyon in Moab |
I’m still not sure which is more amazing,
the scenic views and backdrops or the intense
rock crawling trails and obstacles. The rocks
are made of something I would compare to sandstone
that provides the craziest traction you could
possibly imagine. This enhanced traction makes
it possible to conquer climbs that would otherwise
be considered impassable. What is so truly unique
about MOAB is that these intense and sometimes
difficult trails run right through as well as
overlook some of the most beautiful country in
the world.
On certain trails we were actually looking directly
down onto Arches National Park and the Colorado
River. Back home on the other hand growing up in
The Peoples Republic of California I am used to
bureaucrats deciding where we will and won’t
be allowed to ride, and if they did accidentally
open up a riding area that was anywhere this scenic,
the tree huggers would quickly claim it and shut
us down. Every time we ride Moab I feel like it
is a privilege that is probably has on the verge
of getting yanked at any moment.

Moab
offers trails for every level of experience
from easy fire road trails to technical
climbing trails for advanced riders |
Arctic Cat had hired our friend Scott of High Point
Hummer and ATV to be the groups tour guide. Scott
had come to Moab nearly two decades ago, and has
been living the dream ever since, running his High
Point ATV and Hummer tours of the area ever since.
Scott runs the a very high class outfit with a truly
knowledgeable and likeable staff, that all enjoy
the same things that we do, the only difference
is while we work to enjoy it, they work while enjoying
it.
Scott can not only take you on the best trails Moab has to offer, he also rips
pretty good on an ATV as well as being a avid
off road racer. We spent the morning getting great
slickrock photos and really putting the units
to the test on some of the trail obstacles. The
trails were amazing as usual and I the scenery
was even better than usual with the addition of
the snow.
We worked our way up in elevation steadily throughout
the morning and by noon we were blasting up a
completely snow covered road heading to the snowmobile
site.

Manti-LaSal
National Forest |
We headed up into the Manti-LaSal National Forest
to meet High Point Hummer’s Kent Green at
the truck for some of the world’s best sandwiches
and then some snowmobiling. One of the really cool
things about riding up into the LaSal’s is
that we road from the slickrock trails that the
only vegetation was scattered brush up through the
pine trees and eventually into a super scenic Aspen
forest.
