Palatka, FL (3/9/2015) - ATVriders.com / Jarrod McClure Racing’s (JMR) rider Jarrod McClure raced his way to a sixth place finish this weekend at the GNCC opener in Palatka, Florida.  JMR teammate XC2 Pro Am racer Randy Hamilton charged hard all day and was holding down a podium position until he began overheating in the final few miles causing him to settle for fourth.

Palatka, when any of the veteran racers hear the word they get nightmares of 2003 when the GNCC held there was a swamp. This year however the race would be held at the Rodman Plantation, a huge cattle and timber plantation. The track looked nothing like in 2003 and racers were expecting the typical Florida track, consisting of nasty palmetto roots, whooped out sand ruts, and warm conditions.

The long awaited “Teeeeeeen Seconds”, was here before anyone knew it and the racers were off. Jarrod struggled a bit coming off the start line and then tangled with Johnny Gallagher in the second corner sending him in the woods dead last.

“All I wanted was a good start and I think I was overthinking it and screwed myself up, then tangling with Johnny didn’t help the situation”, said McClure.

DWT’s McClure quickly moved through the 13-rider pack. He rode onto lap two in sixth place with a clear track ahead of him ready to try and catch the leaders. He was able to put time on them but never could get them in his sights, and by the third lap he began to tire and just run his own race. He remained in sixth for the final two laps, securing the position for the day.

“I rode my heart out on that second lap trying to catch them guys, I knew if I could see them I would be able to dig deep and run with them but I think the closest I got was 20 seconds. The Elka/Teixeira suspension was working awesome out there, but I did tire on lap 3 after being stuck on a log and I figured I should save myself and my hands the best I could for Georgia ”, said McClure.

JMR’s XC2 Pro Am Racer Randy Hamilton raced in the top five all day out of the 25-rider class and held down a third place position until the final lap when he began overheating and had to back it down a little, to limp the ATV in to a fourth place position for the day.

“ I am very pleased with our results down here, we stayed up north all winter and didn’t get to train down in the sand like a lot of these guys. It’s looking like Georgia will be cold and muddy so Randy and I will be used to those conditions and ready to put these Honda’s on the box,” said McClure.

The JMR team will remain in Florida a few days prepping things for round two, which is only a few days away in Washington, GA.
