I'll be heading through there Thursday though. Not sure if you trust just some guy off of the Internet to bring your 4-wheeler anywhere. (I know I wouldn't)

Yes, but only if you're letting more air in or out of your ATV. If it runs lean as a result (which your engine does straight from the factory) it can run how and not run as well. I'm going to bring some jets as well as another one of the guys who is coming just to be safe. It's a long ride back home and I don't want your trip to suck.

If we do have to rejet it's a quick process. Ask the guys in the Outlaw forums and they'll tell you the same.

Bayou, ill keep this thread posted with the experience. it would be great to have someone else from the area to carpool with. i talked to the guy that runs the series and asked him to give my email out to other racers from the area, one guy contacted me from leesville so far. sounds like fun, 20 to sign up and 30 for a transponder that you have to put on your bike (or helmet). they take paypal or you can pay at the race, gotta reserve your number 7 days in advance though.

i would be racing with the old dudes. not sure which quad i would run probably try the brute in the ute class. ryan the extremes have rims...190 douglas here is a pic of them on the 416 not sure what i want for them they are in good shape. the 416 is also for sale....$2100 je piston hot cam stg 2, c&d racing head work, gt thunder 8 disc clutch with hinson basket, magnum cdi, sparks 6 degree timing advance key, 39mm fcr, hmf full system, k&n filter, x factor nerfs, renthal bars, good holeshot xcrs on 4 corners

i ended upcoming to the dunes. the weather was great until around 5ish, then it started sprinkling. i camped out, wether report says all good til around 3 today but barney is shutting down at that time anyway.
BAYOU, there is a utv class and you can actually run a UTV class AND a sport class, there is also an over 30 class for sport bikes. they really have a class for everyone.

Thanks, last two burned in a house fire 10 days after I got to Iraq. I'll come back in May for two weeks then we redeploy to Fort Polk in August. Can't wait to go try the 450's out! :D

they got trails at enduro camp near fort polk and la dunes is not that far away either. what is everybody going to be driving this weekend...i will be there saturday morning (wiggins) in either a red or green silverado pulling a tandem trailer with lil tool boxes behind the fender. i will have a red brute force and a red 450r on the trailer.

I think Danny might have misjudged where my quad was according to where he was going. No harm no foul. Danny is a super great guy who actually let me borrow one of his 400ex's when I never had a quad to go riding. Even if he would have bent something it would have been OK. ( I have full coverage) :D

I'm back in Austin now, but Danny is out there nearly every weekend. I'm there every time I'm in town. If you ever heard out towards Austin or Dallas and are bringing your quad let me know and we'll head out riding.

YOURADHERE, yea i flagged a few races on top of a hill, i mostly rode the track around the perimeter and tried to find things to jump. i talked to keith on the 250r and he pointed you out but by the time i cranked my bike to go say hi, you were long gone. i had the black 450 with the red frame and like a 2ft long flag, lol. prolly wearin a black helmet too. PACKED weekend!! i really want to jump on a wiggins trip soon, look alot more challenging.

does anyone need anything aftermarket for their quads??? im about to list all my stuff on ebay and on here, figured id give you guys first dibs.

Yeah I made a couple passes and recognized your 450r. I stopped for a bit and didnt see you anymore and hadnt seen you again for the rest of the day. I was suprised at how many people were there. I should have kept my slow *** away from the drags and went test out my new suspension more like you did. Those trails are hands down my favorite part. I made a couple runs around the whole park and thats where I have the most fun.

the perimeter trail at the dunes is a lil better than the one at wiggins but there is more to play on at wiggins everytime we go there is more trail though. the thing i dont like about the perimeter trail at the dunes is the 2 way trail thing. never know who is coming the other way. next time we go to wiggins we will probably leave the knobbies on instead of paddles for the trails. we will be going back soon. justin the dyno closest to you is cp customs in baton rouge. dont have the number but should be easy to find. never been there but i hear he has a nice set up. the guys i used one is in jennings and the other is in bayou vista which is near morgan city.

doesnt that guy with one leg have the dyno in Jennings?? cool guy if thats him, he was at the dunes for a day this past weekend, he broke something on his quad though, i saw him getting towed back to camp. im bringing my bike to him after i finish the motor build.

all the parts i have are either 450R, 400ex, 300ex, or CR250 parts.
complete axis suspension setup for the 400, axle, swingarm, carrier, full set of black ITP bajas etc. and tons of stock stuff, also some nice aftermarket stuff for 04-05 450s. lots of aftermarket stuff for the 300ex too. mostly engine parts for the CR tho.

i got 3rd at the race in texarkana, we're headed to shreveport in 3 weeks for the next race. the course was crazy tight with a few fast sections and it passed through their MX course a couple of times on each lap. it was really fun and i met up with alot of nice people.

I know for sure all 4 tires are bald, its got a bolt broken off in the bumper mount, and the previous owner painted the frame black but its chipping off. i want to hit some of those races but i really need to get in shape. i have been slacking bad the last year and put on weight it effected my endurance bad....but last week i started hitting weights again and running so hopefully it wont take long. the sandstone trip will tell the tale. was the 4x4 class pretty big? that is what i think i would like to run. was the track rough and did the race run 2 hrs? i want $2100 for this 400ex. has je 416 piston, c&d racing ported head, hot cam stg 2, fcr 39, hmf full exhaust, sparks timing key, magnum cdi, gt thunder 8 disc clutch with hinson basket, x factor nerfs with stainless pro pegs with aluminum heel guards, steering stabilizer with good holeshot xcr on all 4 corners. will run with or beat most piped 450s

Man I like that quad. Looks like a good deal too. Do you still have the stock muffler? Does it smoke?

Is the airbox still stock?

I read in the thread in your sig you used to live up around Lawton. Ive been through there a few times. We've bought cattle in Elgin and would stay in Lawton. Pretty nice town and passing by the old fort and seeing the elk(occassionally) was different. Used to make that trip a couple times a year but its been about 6 months or so since Ive passed through there.


Scuzz sorry I never got anymore pics of that 400ex I posted. He tore it down and is having it bored to a 416 and having the head cleaned up so the smoking problem should be gone by then. He is on the fence about selling it or keeping it as a backup but if he sells it I'll post it here again.

Small mom and pop diner on the left side at the Elgin exit, park across the street in the bank parking lot to keep things simple. Little to no traffic there too; not real sure of the hours of the diner; it's just pass the Sonic across the rail road tracks.

Yeah they had alot of racing going on. There was 2 strips. Both were smoother and longer then any strip at La Dunes.

We left Thursday afternoon with the intention of driving about halfway, stopping for the night, and driving the rest of the way Friday morning....well that plan quickly went out the window and we(and by "we" I mean "I") drove straight through and got there about 1:45am Friday morning. This place is HUGE, it makes our normal dunes down here look like a bucket of sand. We rode Friday and most of Saturday and packed up to start heading home. The weather was kind of crappy. We woke up Friday morning to a heavy mist but that stopped and it was overcast all day. It rained some Friday night but again stopped and Saturday was just overcast. The sand was choppy but Friday afternoon it had dried out some and the wind smoothed it out alot.

I got to try out the mohawks I made and they worked pretty well. WAY better then a regular dirt tire. Definately eliminated alot of the front end push that you get when running a straight paddle.

The only pics Ive got is using my brother's phone, my camera broke.

Overall it was a pretty good trip. It only ended up costing about $130/per person which isnt bad. We're definately going to make another trip but stay longer next time.

got back from sandstone excellent trails....i have a whole new level of respect for the gncc guys the run utilitys i did the 36 mile loop friday on the 450 and did the 1/2 loop saturday on the brute which was 20 miles. after the 20 mile run on the ute i was a sore mofo almost went over the bars a few times and hit a tree....lol it was great. was alot easier on the 450 though. that is some of the best trail riding in the state....sandy berms, jumps, tight technical tree sections, creek crossings, rocks, hill climbs a whole lot of fun.

Just got back from duhons mud hole this weekend. went out there to support local friends in mud bog, lots of insane trucks and bikes. great times. they are supposed to go to willow eddies, by lake charles on the 17. i think i might hit the trails at clayborn that weekend. depends on the people. if you are in abbeville one weekend, check out duhons. you don't have to get muddy, but its fun to do.

P.S. if you bring sport quad out there, run paddels. i found out the hard way, and paid someone to come bring mine. they work good when ppl wanna race in the mud lol.

about 30 miles north of alexandria on I-49. take the cloutierville exit go left under the interstate and stay on that road about 10 miles go right on long leaf parkway. atv riders can either camp or park at corral camp or lotus camp....it is $5.00 a day. kisatche national forest they have info on the site i dont know how to do the link thing. we have ridden there a few times nobody ever checked our exhaust for sparkys or decibel level.

I think they did put a mud hole where the track was, I think we were the last ones to use the strip last fall...he said they didn't get enough racers there to outweigh putting in another mud hole..sucks

I had only been once last fall and if they would have maintained it like they had in the pics on their site and kept the trucks off to keep it smoother there would probably be more running there. Sucks though, I had fun the one time I had been.

the one we did was kisatche district. most of the time the two way trail is safe just try to look ahead lol. we usually go on a friday and ride then hit it again early saturday morning before alot of people go out on the trail. last saturday as we were coming in to camp from the trail alot of people were rolling in. on friday i think we saw 4 atvs on the whole 36 mile loop. if you go to the one we ride use lotus camp....flush toilets and water spigots in the camp area where corral camp has vault toilets and no water

yep, the drag strip was takin out. the closest one that i know of is at the breaux bridge track. duhons got rid of it and theres no where to race, except for on the headland in the mud. i raced on it a couple times and won cuz i was the only one runnin paddels

the new age utes are bad ***...i HARDLY ever ride the 450 anymore...has become the wife quad. you can pretty much do anything on them i can run with sport quads on trails or just poke around do a lil mudding it is a good happy medium. you will be happy. labor day weekend we may head to wiggins on either sat or sunday not sure yet

Yeah I'm almost to the point of selling my 250, I blew it last memorial day and I'm just getting it back together...I guess I'm through pumping money into the dune bike lol...now its time to sit back relax and enjoy cruising on the trails/dunes

Im seeing more and more people get burned out on the sport bike side of things. One of my buddy's brought his beater Honda 300 4x4 and his 450R this past Saturday and only rode the 450R about 5 minutes. The rest of the time was spent on that 300 underwater. I must admit I took it for a ride and enjoyed it.

I went thru the ATV safety course last week; took my son with me and since his 450R is in the shop we borrowed a utility from the instructor. He and I swapped back and forth while in the class and I actually had a good time on the big electric shift quad.

mine is a brute force 650sra...solid axle it slides around like a sport but at lower crusing speeds is is more comfy and plush than a sport. i put elka shocks on it...huge difference the dyna cdi adds 6 degree timing advance full belt engage out the hole over rides the limp home and rev limit in reverse...huge difference also. i disconnected the engine braking system which lets it rev a lil quicker. also changed primary and secondary springs in clutch which makes it rev out quicker and backshift quicker...example of backshift is setting up for corner when u let off gas it changes sheave to lower ratio faster so when u get back on gas it hits harder. i have the upp crossover intake which balances it out and a muzzy full exhaust and filter i am installing when i get back home. that is supposed to be huge gain on a v twin. next is a stabilizer and flexx bars....lol i am nuts but it allows you to get back to riding which is great in itself. bone stock it ran with the 400cc sport quads. i love the look on their face when a ute is rolling with them. i love the automatic tranny also when i ride a shifter ute it feels wierd

the 650i is no slouch they claim that is the fastest one out the box. a friend of mine has the 750 fuel injected i just had the dyna cdi with the itp rims and terra cross tires....11 lbs heavier than stock each tire and rim his was bone stock with stock rims out the hole till 30 mph dead even after that he started to pull me. since then he did the itp/terra cross but we have not hooked back up i want to run him since he added same tire rim combo before i add intake/pipe/filter to get a good measuring point then run after. by far the dyna is the best bang for the $$$$ like 179 on flea bay. takes 5 min to install....lol it is still stock. i am thinking about going with hyper rims they are a few lbs lighter per rim than the itp ss. the terra cross are a great tire they work very well in the woods for fast trail riding no more front end dive and they have a predictable slide. i rode a prairie 650 in wiggins he had the 730 kit with ported heads, high comp pistons,cams etc. with paddles.....lol that was a sweet machine pulled real hard and was embarrassing quite a few 450's....lol he still had the racks on it for stealth mode:D mine isnt no super fast quad but it is pretty quick with good handling. takes a while to get used to throwing a 6oolb quad around though but it will put a big smile on your face

Hey fellas if some of yall are from south la. yall should try tower trax. They have approx. 2600 to 3000 acres of trails and mud they havent been open long. I have been there once its a blast and only 20 minutes from the house for me. They have showers and wash racks free of charge.
