The Poor man build off!

I figured since alot of people who arent rich should have a build off for their own, now winner will get a little cash once I work a little over time ;)


A before picture is needed, but if you dont have one we can work something out. Now as far as rules, they arent any really but if you cheat, I'll boot you out of the build off ASAP! If I see you have a full race ready bike with high dollar items I MAY question because this is a low budget build off.

Classes
0-300: 91cc-350cc 4 stroke/ 91-200cc 2 stroke (This class is similar to GNCC Sport Class and GNC Youth Production Class)

301-400: 351cc-449cc 4 stroke/ 201cc-350cc 2 stroke

450 UP:- 450-800cc 4 stroke/ 350cc-800cc 2 stroke (No Superbike motors)


MAKE NOTE!!!! All CC ranges are what your quad was stock! IE: If you have a Bored and stroked 500ex, you still enter the Mid-Size Class Unless you want to upgrade to the Race Inspired Class.

VOTING
There will be rounds since the surplus of people and the tiny poll limits :mad There will be 1-2 rounds depending on size for each class, the top 3 people from these rounds will duke it out in the final! Once the winner is declared you won your class and you are transfered into the final battle. The winners from all the finals will then duke it out for the mother of all bragging rights!

hence the name poor man buildoff i dont think he shoukld be allowed in cuz if could even come close to buying axis anything it would be stickers wouldnt even be able to come close to buyin a set i dont think that gibson stems and denton stabiolizer and elka links all on one quad should be allowed yea ok i can see a set of bootom of the line elkas or an elka rebuild but axis all around with elka links and such com'on i dont think its fair imo

Damn people dont take this too seriously. I just planned on posting my quad "when its finished" to get peoples opinions of what the frame ect should be. I got the quad for $7,500 with everything on it, and put $500 dollars worth of mods "my limit" into the motor and some other parts to finish her off.

The only new thing I got was the motor mods which I will post pictures of as I get parts back. I traded my elka rear shock for a axis shock for similar riding specs "so I could run same front and rear shocks". I'm getting my clutch cover,head cover, oilfilter cover, clutch and front break lever, shifter and rear break lever, powdercoated candy red. I took of the the shop racing and quad tech stickers along with the 450r side stickers which i'll be replacing with new ones.

From looking at the bike and talking it over with Killa, I think from what has been discussed and so he should be allowed. The pictures even show. dont worry we'll give them a run for their money ;)

Now if need be I'll put them in another group, your motor work will not bump you UNLESS you want too. or if you wanna run high stakes you can be in the 450 class, this goes for 416's, 440's anything with some sort of motor work, Or you just want to play with the big boys!

The only thing that will be shooting is oil lol, no springs or anything though.

on the 300 i think there is a little tricky spring loaded thing on the bottom, but i don't remember what its for. i pc'ed that btw :blah: no more paintin for me :D

You will need a new gasket for that cover and some new oil.

Better as you can see some of my parts I've painted, Ive been tig welding the frame etc its almost done. Motor should be back from the machine shop end of this week

Paint gun/spray gun what ever you would like to call it, down at the shop, I forget which one it is he just got it. I work full time at a autobody now so painting parts wont be a hassle for me anymore :devil:

I'd go to pep-boys, autozone and see what they have, Usually you want something that helps prevent rust and wont chip as easy and is easy to find when you need to do touch ups! For plasics the hot new product is Krylon fusion, I'm trying it out so I'll let you know how it goes

Also try your best to get a rattle can clear coat, it will make a world of differance!

I did it more for looks then for strenght lol. But it would help alot to reinforce it.
It's not hard to do. it just take time to make it look good and smooth like a factory job.

All I did was bend a plate for the front then weld it in place. Then make a plate for the side with a hole in it. weld a pipe in the middle for the bolt the put the side plate on. and weld everything in place.

Then you have a tough frame but to make it look good I grinded the weld completly off ( you need good penetration on the welds ) I grinded every thing as round as posible to make it look like a single pipe.

Havent herd anything yet, I think its fine how we have it, Members having their own little thing is better then it being big, How it is now everyone can enter, theres no stress its all in fun. Well it`s not that hard it`s just that you need to make a good prototype out of cardboard so you get fix mistakes and then make a final out of lexan. Don`t use plexiglass. it`s to britle and will snap as soon as you bend it. I tryed.

I did the front, bottom and back in one peice. Then I did the 2 sides. When you bend a piece make a small cut in it with a table saw so it bends easier and it will keep it`s shape better.

As for the size well it`s a little longer cause I have a 450R carb on. And I didn`t make it as complecated as the stock. it looks more like a alumunium box, just almost scare. Make sure is won`t hit the swingarm if the shock bottoms out.

oh yeah and you need special glue to glue the piece togheter. this glue melts the piece togheter. don` use normal glue it won`t work

i say 500 yea elkas are over budjet ok im 16 i have no job and i can just about afford to put gas in my bike unfportunatly and im in the build off and in the process of ridinfg im buiilding and tuning the bike all i know is with the new rebuiild so far it ate up 3 banshees on the strip ;) and Josh shocks are a big thing make you faster give you better control and so on but idk your running the show so its all up to youand 440 ex wanna build me one o them boxes and sell it to me also HARLEN YOU THE MAN !!!!!!:blah: :D

well I got my elka`s for 500$ a-arms for 300 and axle for 200$ so it`s not that much money.

Do you really beat shee? are any of them piped?

As for building you a box well I don`t know I didn`t get to test it on the track yet so I don`t really know how tough it`s going to be. And it would be a little expencive. Cause it take some time to get everything right.

I think this thread is awsome. But I have a question. I just came across this now and read all the pages up to here. I have seen a couple of people that have posted a picture of their quad before the modifications that are near to stock in the pictures, but when I read the signatures below the pic, there were numerous aftermarket accessorys listed. These mods could have been added since this started, but I think some people are sending pictures of their modded quads that were taken when they were new or close to new and then updating them with a newer picture. I might be wrong, just something I have observed, something to pay attention to.

My quad looked like the before pic before I tore it down a couple weeks ago and now its at its current stage that I posted the pic of. i not cheating i bought/traded straight up for my 416 and am redoing it now and that airbox does look trick with the batt mount off and everything :blah: as for budjet im running probably around the 500$ mark cuz my aarms were 300 sold my stock front end for $180 and a duncan bumper including brakelines got new ones for 40 sold the axis rear that came with the bike for 300 and stock shocks all around dialed them in descent for me traded old cracked frame for protaper handle bars picked up a cam for 90 hopefully gettin an axle to match the width of my frontend but im not spending 800 in elkas or anything :rolleyes: and personaly i turnheads in my local pit

yes the banshees i race are pretty nice ones piped jetted airfilters tires simple mods nothing big but yes i do leave them in the dust and i have a vid but have to get in on my comp and i dont know how unfortunatly :(

All do respect josh, derek, and a few other guys i think some of these quad are just radical to in POOR man build off. I added it up, i hve just under 5 grand in my quad includeing the price, where as some of yall have that much in the suspenision and motor alone. When I think of poor I think of really custom homemade stuff, and lil stuff like 44oexs frame and air box. Not ZPS shocks and long travel a-arms. This is JMO and I think I am speaking for other people also. Also derek I may be wrong but I think pros don't even have 25,000 dollar bikes. If not they cannot be too farr from it. I do know gust had like 2,000 dollar titanium shock springs made for him or something.

No, Joshie I'll have to pass on that one. This build is mainly more about bling than power. My bling factor is low but power factor is high. If this was more abou how much money is into your motor thanother stuff I'd probly be a good contestant, but from seeing these very trick elka/bugard and walsh/axis quads I cannot compete with my measly 400ex works/stock painted. And i keep having all kinds of he!! with my brakes so now im fully rebuilding both front cailpers and havent even messed with the rear brake yet (im kinda afraid to, it works so im leavin it be for now). hey josh here is a suggestion for teh build off each person should have a list of what THEY did and what THEY made for the bike during the buildoff time and maybe how mcuh they spent on parts added from the before pic thats in the after pic. just suggestions im not complaining i dotn care if they got shocks or what not thsi should be on what the builders do them selfves and how little they spent (jmo) thanks for puttin this whole thing together josh itll all work out in the end

that's a pretty good idea imo. i think it makes it more of a "poor man's" deal if you do all or most of the work yourself. like i'm doing all my pc'ing, polishing, motor work, and assembling by myself. but of course, not everone is mechanically inclined, so what can ya do, right.

I agree, thats how i made most of my money to put into my quad, by selling my stock parts and even buying stock parts cheap and sellin on ebay.:D

i think im in trouble.....i STILL dont have my frame back, my uncle is being a fricken slow arse terd on it.....a days worth of work and hes had it a month and a half......numerous phone calls.....im just gonna pick it up tonight and have someone else do it.....i have everything done except for the a-arms need to be painted and the motor rebuilt......which is a weekends worth of work.....everything else is all painted polished cleaned etc.:ermm:
