Taylor Kiser
takes the opening round win on his Ballance
Racing/Maxxis Yamaha YFZ450 ATV
Medora, IN (4/23/2010) - Round
one of the 2010 Parts Unlimited OMA Nationals season
kicked off with perfect weather at a brand new facility
near Medora, Indiana. The race began with Taylor
Kiser grabbing the K&N holeshot aboard his Ballance
Racing Maxxis Yamaha and ended one hour and fifty
five minutes later after Kiser took the checkers
to claim the victory.
Lap five and six showed the Team Sicc Racing Rekluse
KTM of Josh Beavers through the Moose Racing scoring
tent first with a gap of around twenty seconds,
but Kiser soon erased that gap and finished the
event with a one minute and forty eight second margin
of victory over Beavers after twelve laps of the
short but interesting race course. Bryan Hulsey
and the Moose Racing UM Performance Honda collected
third place to round out the Hill Jack XC podium.
“I had a good day,” recalled Kiser.
He said “I just kind of kept it clean and
rode a smooth and consistent race all day. The Maxxis
tires hooked up good and the Moto-Xperts motor pulled
me to the first corner ahead of everyone.”
Kiser put his Pro Armor FMF Yamaha on a quick pace
after taking the holeshot, putting in consistent
nine and a half to ten minute laps throughout the
event. “Everything went really smooth today,"
recalled Kiser. “I mean, I was able to stay
out front and, you know, keep it on all four all
day and I was really happy to be able to get out
here and win the first round. It was a lot of fun.
The track was good. Conditions were perfect, a sunny
beautiful day. I definitely can’t say enough
about the bike and how everything was working. I
can’t thank everybody enough. It’s a
pretty sweet package we’ve got put together
this year and, you know, look for me out front some
more.”
It
was a wheelie out of the creek to end lap
twelve of the Hill Jack XC for Josh Beavers.
The Performance Super Cycles KTM 450 finished
in second place
at the OMA Nationals series opener held
just a quarter mile from Beavers'
home.
Josh Beavers was able to battle with Kiser for the
middle part of the race, but traffic was not good
for the Performance Super Cycles DP Brakes KTM 450.
“I made a lot of mistakes on about the second
to last lap trying to get around some lappers,”
said Beavers. “He ended up getting around
me and just kind of checked out.” The friendly
local pro racer would have to settle for second
place at the race course he could have walked to
from home. “I actually live a quarter mile
up the road from here, so I’ve got a lot of
family members, a lot of friends out here today,”
he noted. Second is still not a bad finish. According
to Beavers, his sponsorship has stepped up this
year and he is trying to do the same. “I had
KTM help me out with a little bit of support this
year. I’m trying to do my part and put forth
the extra effort and make a good showing for them.
It seems to be working out fairly well.”
Former
OMA Nationals Champion Bryan Hulsey rode
his Moose Racing UM
Performance Honda to a third place finish
at the OMA Nationals Johnny Signs
Hill Jack XC on Saturday. The Missouri racer
completed twelve laps of the virgin trail
course in two hours, four minutes, and thirty
seconds.
Former OMA Nationals champion Bryan Hulsey managed
to put his Maier Plastics ARS Honda on the podium
for third place after a long day battling for position
with a few racers. “It was pretty good,”
stated Hulsey. “I got off about second off
the start and followed Taylor for the first lap.
Josh Beavers got around me with a pretty good move
out in the field going out to the second lap. I
ended up having a pretty good battle with Shawn
Beavers then for third and fourth. We battled back
and forth for quite a while. I ended up getting
around him and didn’t see him again.”
According to Shawn Beavers, he “broke a ball
joint off” his Dodge Racing Seymor Precision
Machine Yamaha, ending the day early for another
local favorite.
