After the release of the John Deere 825i XUV,
High Performance Gator, as a dealership we collectively
decided that we needed something to showcase that
we were not just a farm tractor dealer and that
we were serious about the UTV / SxS market. So,
in late December 2010 we began putting together
the initial plans of building a custom Gator.
John Deere is known for being on the forefront
of developing and incorporating technology into
their equipment and we wanted to expand onto that
platform so we knew what ever we built would need
to be current to new technologies.

When we first started to plan this out it was
going to be for shows, events, etc but the more
we talked about it we knew to be taken serious
by our customers that it also had to be something
that we could duplicate and anyone walking into
our showrooms could have us build for them.
It had to be functional and keeping true to
it’s off-road capabilities, yet something
unique, something different, something custom
that you can not just buy parts for off of the
internet. Something that we could do as a team
and something that we could utilize existing
talents of our co-workers who were already into
some of these things as hobbies – fabrication,
audio systems, off-road racing and just general
SxS and ATV vehicle knowledge based on pleasure
riding on the weekends.
So after that initial planning and discussions
we had we started to put all of the ideas onto
the table. Some things included safari style
seats and roll cage for the bed, power steering,
turbo kits, snorkels, stereo systems, custom
paint, etc. Many of the ideas were great, but
this would be something we needed to duplicate
and could sell, so liability issues were raised
and reliability of some of the aftermarket components
were questioned.
After researching products and crunching numbers
on the build as well as trying to keep to a
reasonable price point that would re-sell, we
decided on something modest, yet something that
would showcase most of the performance parts
available from John Deere as well as what we
could put together as a dealer.
