Industries December Quad of the Month
Alan "Elmo"
Kirtsinger's 1988 Honda 250R ATV
"I'm in
the Coast Guard and spent a couple of years in
the Middle East. When I got back to the states
I bought a new Suzuki LTR450. It was stolen about
3 weeks after. I was devistated. I'm still paying
for that quad. So I got tired of having nothing
to ride so I decided that I would build my own
quad from the frame up. I bought a 88' TRX250R
frame from eBay. I have never tried to build a
quad before, so I was a little nervous on how
it would come out. Well to make a long story short.....after
a few months of buying parts from here and there
My friend Kevin (knelson) entered me in the "Extreme
Quad makeover". A thread started by Pappy
to help out people trick out there quad. I thought
I had it all ready to build. All of the parts
were shipped to my home town at Panama City Beach,
FL at my friends shop. I have never seen the parts
up close, only in pictures. Even the CT Racing
PRO-X 330R motor I bought from Teixeira Tech.
I finally went home to Florida to start the build.
I took 2 weeks of leave (vacation) to complete
the build. Well, after 2 weeks I was not done.
I found out that I was missing a bunch of parts
that I didn't think of until I saw the quad coming
together. So I called my command back in Charleston,
SC and told them that I will need another week.
They agreed and I got back to work and started
ordering all of the extra parts. Most of the parts
that I bought in the last week were all over nighted
$$$$$$. Let me tell you. This is not a very easy
job if you don't totally know what you are doing.
My friend Kevin helped me along the way but we
still ran in to problems like, how does this go
together???? Any way, I got the quad put together
1 day before I had to go back to my unit in Charleston.
It was an awesome time and I didn't really have
a vacation. We worked on this project every day,
all day. The best part about the entire build
is when it came time to fire it up. I honestly
had my doubts on if it would even start. I just
knew that we didn't put something together right.....WRONG!!
She fired right up. The timing was off, but we
fixed it with some help from Ed at Teixeira Tech
and the owner of CT Racing. Man....I really want
to build another!!! Thanks for reading and thanks
for your vote if you did.
Take care,
-Alan"
