Interview:
Tim Farr - Factory KTM ATV Racer / FRE Race
Team - Continued
ATVrders.com:
You’ve stepped back quite a bit from
racing yourself this year and seemed to concentrate
more on managing the team. Do you regret not
racing as much as you used to?
Tim Farr:
For sure I miss it, but I can’t
say that I regret it. I’ve been able
to do a lot in my career. I’ve won a
lot of championships and lot of events, so
I don’t really feel like I’ve
missed out on that much. I’ve always
been pretty successful at any kind of racing
I’ve ever tried, so this just kind of
came to me as a new challenge. I kind of got
my feet wet a couple years ago in 2006 when
I did some managing for some pro-am riders
at motosport.com. It was fun working with
them and being able to give them some good
input. The KTM thing is just sort of an extension
of that and it’s been really good.

Tim
Farr has won multiple Extreme Dirt Championship
in his career along with the 2007 Open
Pro-Am Championship on the KTM, but
with his busy travel schedule, Tim has
only competed in two EDT events in 2008,
and he was once again on the Podium |
ATVrders.com:
Do you have plans of making a comeback in
racing or just continuing to do select events?
Tim Farr:
I don’t think so. I miss it,
but I enjoyed it when I was doing it. The
amount of training and dedication that was
required when I was at the top of the podium
was incredible and I don’t think I can
do that now and still be successful at it.
It’s kind of like if you try to do too
much, everything just kind of falters. I was
going to go out and do the Steel City Invitational,
but we just didn’t get the SX’s
in time and didn’t get the time we needed
to do any suspension testing or anything like
that. Don’t get me wrong, that quad
is awesome how it is, but to race it at the
level of competition that is out there, we
would have to make some adjustments to be
competitive at that level.
ATVrders.com:
Will you be racing at any Supermoto events
this year?
Tim Farr:
Not this season. I miss doing them,
but I just don’t have the time. There
has been some talk of doing the Heartland
Challenge.

Since
the KTM ATV has went into production
in 2007, Tim Farr has already racked
up several championship & Podium
finishes in all forms of ATV Racing,
which is incredible. Tim Farr Won the
2007 NASMOTO Pro ATV Supermoto Championship
& along with the Pro ATV Eudurocross
Championship just to name a few |
ATVrders.com:
Will there be any new additions to
the GNCC FRE / KTM ATV Race team next year?
Tim Farr:
I don’t think so. I don’t
think there’s going to be a whole lot
of change for next year.
ATVrders.com:
Any preference between motocross vs. cross-country
racing?
Tim Farr:
Not really. My background is in mx
and I love it. I did have mixed emotions at
first going into the cross-country side of
it, but now that I have, I really enjoy it.
It’s a really good group of people.
Plus I don’t have to worry about coming
in and having Friday or Saturday practice
or being there through Sunday. Basically we
come in there and set up on Friday; get everything
prepped and come 1:00 Saturday, we’re
racing. Then it’s over and we go home.
ATVrders.com:
What would you like to see happen in the industry
the next year or so?
Tim Farr:
I’d like to see the economy
make a comeback so we can get back to our
original plan and be more full on in racing.
ATVrders.com:
It would be great to see a KTM rig at both
the GNCC and AMA ATV Motocross Nationals.
Tim Farr:
I think it would be great to see
a KTM rig out at the WORCS series also! Personally,
I’d like to do some WORCS races myself.
I don’t really want to commit to a whole
series, but I’d sure like to come out
and do a couple of races. For me, it’s
the things that I haven’t done yet that
are the most interesting. Over the years I’ve
went out and done laps and more laps around
my practice track. It’s a big track,
but I must have done 50,000 laps around it
by now and it kind of loses its excitement.
It’s the same thing when you go out
to a racetrack, you just make lap after lap.
That’s why I enjoy the endurance races,
because the course is huge and it seems like
it’s always new and not just another
lap. That’s why I would like to do WORCS.
The laps aren’t quite as long as in
the GNCC, but they are pretty decent length
and it’s cool because it has some motocross
in it.
ATVrders.com:
It’s been great talking to you Tim and
we wish you and the rest of the FRE/KTM team
the best for the rest of the GNCC season!
Tim Farr:
Thank you! I also want to thank KTM
and all of our sponsors; we couldn’t
do it without them!
