Ft. Worth, TX - After a season ending crash last season, Pro ATV Motocross Racer Tim Dettling is back once again ready to claim a spot on the Pro ATV Podium in 2014.
Tim Dettling has been training hard all winter to help get back to speed in the ATV Pro & Pro-Am Class.
We recently caught up with Tim Dettling while he was training in Louisiana with fellow Mtn Dew ATV Pro Motocross Racer Joel Hetrick at Greg Pafford's track.
ATVriders.com:
How is it being down here training at the Pafford’s in Louisiana?
Tim Dettling: It’s been going pretty good! I just got back down here after I went home for a few weeks and just trying to get back in shape and get ready for the season.
ATVriders.com:
How do you like practicing here at Greg’s track?
Tim Dettling:Oh it’s awesome! It’s getting rough now and we’re trying to keep it that way so we’re used to riding in it and the weather down here is really good, so we’re lucky to have a place like this to ride.

Tim Dettling is once again aboard a Honda 450R for 2014 |
ATVriders.com: Last year you had some good finishes up until you got hurt. What exactly happened?
Tim Dettling:
I just came together with another rider and just got launched off the quad and broke my hip, pelvis and femur. It was a pretty bad break, so I’m lucky to be back on the quad.
|
Tim Dettling will be racing in both the ATV Motocross Pro & Pro-Am Classes |
ATVriders.com: How long was your recovery from the crash?
Tim Dettling:
Well they told me it was going to be about 12 to 15 months, and it’s been about seven or eight now, so I’m a little ahead of schedule, and it seems to be doing pretty good, so I’m happy.

Despite breaking his hip, pelvis, & femur last season, Tim Dettling seems to recovering quickly & looks comfortable on the motocross track |
ATVriders.com:
Last year you got hurt, and Tyler Hamrick took over your spot with Vechery Racing, so he going to remain on the team for 2014?
Tim Dettling: Yeah, he covered for me in Pro-Am class and had his own deal for Pro last year. This year he is with the team full time, so he’s going to be doing Pro and Pro-Am on Vechery Racing quads.
ATVriders.com: So it’s just going to be the pair of you guys this year?
Tim Dettling: It’s going to be me and Tyler in the Pro and Pro-Am classes and then Scott Vechery, is going to come back to racing in the A-Class and I think he’s planning on doing Pro-Am as well. Also, Dan Hosington will be in the A-Class and 16-24.

Tim Dettling has been training in Louisiana along with Joel Hetrick |
ATVriders.com:
We are about a month away from the first gate drop, do you think you’ll be ready?
Tim Dettling: I think so, I still have a ways to go but a month is a month and I’m going to train hard and get ready.
ATVriders.com:
Do you think it’s an advantage to you to be able to train with Hetrick who's is one of the top racers out there?
Tim Dettling: Oh yeah definitely! We don’t get a whole lot of track time together, but just watching him and seeing him ride, I can learn a lot from his speed.

ATVriders.com:
What’s your outlook on the season?
Tim Dettling: I’m confident going into the first round because we have a good program, and we’re trying to go for that championship in Pro-Am between me and Tyler, I think we have a pretty good chance of getting it. We are both looking for top-ten finishes in Pro as well.
ATVriders.com:
Any new sponsors for 2014?
Tim Dettling: Actually we now have Elka Suspension and MAXXIS Tires, which is exciting. We’ve wanted to be with MAXXIS for a long time and finally got hooked up with them, and I think it’ll be a big advantage to us, and I’m really liking the Elka Suspension as well.
