Daytona Beach, FL - Nick Gennusa caught the eye of defending Pro ATV Motocross Champion Chad Wienen after winning the Open A Class as well as earning fourth in the Pro-Am Class in 2013.

Nick Gennusa will join the Wienen Motorsports Yamaha Race Team with Chad Wienen & Thomas Brown for the 2014 ATV Motocross season and will be competing for a Pro-Am Championship.

We had a chance to meet up with Nick Gennusa as he was training down in Florida with the Wienen Motorsports Yamaha team to talk to him about the new team and his 2014 race program.

ATVriders.com: You got the Wienen Motorsports team behind you this year, how did that all come about?
Nick Gennusa: Well, it comes through years of being a privateer and trying to prove yourself. Chad saw me race last year and he saw my skill and my dedication and he ended up picking me up and I couldn’t ask to be with any other guys and we’re surrounded by the best people in the sport.

ATVriders.com: How big was it for you when Chad reached out to you?
Nick Gennusa: To be honest it’s still kind of hitting me, after he asked me, and to pull up some times and see Brown’s and Wienen’s rigs both sitting there and then my trailer it’s pretty amazing to see that. It’s still getting to me that I’m with the two best guys in the world and it’s a huge dream to me and I’m going do everything I can to make this work.

ATVriders.com: How big have they been on your training program, riding style, and stamina?
Nick Gennusa: Well the training is the hardest training I’ve done in my entire life. These guys are animals, non-stop training every single day. When we go from riding to road biking, to yoga classes to watch TV, and in between commercials doing push-ups and ab roll-outs, it’s just non-stop training. These guys just like to push and push and I’ve only been here for a month and I feel like I’ve come so much further already than I ever have in the past.

ATVriders.com: How is the new Yamaha working out for you?
Nick Gennusa:The Yamaha is great, I really love it. When I first got on it, I felt really comfortable and I got a few things to dial in, the shocks and seating and bars are all perfect and it’s just super smooth and I got to say I love the ATV.

ATVriders.com: Which classes are you running this year?
Nick Gennusa: I’m going just do the Pro-Am class and I’m going to be chasing that title from the first gate drop all the way to the last checkered flag.

ATVriders.com: How do you feel now with only about a month to go until the start of the season? How do you like the tracks and environment down here?
Nick Gennusa: Well the longest I’ve ever trained in Florida before was about six days so to be here for a month and have another month of training this is an insane amount of riding, its come to the point where you just ride every day and you’re not even sore the next day. This is just a daily thing. I’m only seeing improvements from all the riding we’ve been doing with Chad and everyone else. The Pax track is great, it’s awesome they let quads on it. It’s a good training track as it gets really rough, anyone can ride a smooth track, and this teaches you to be smooth through the rough stuff. I really like training here.
