Our
day at Gunsite started out in the classroom
for some gun safety training |
We spent our first day at Gunsite becoming familiar
with our firearms and the facility, which was
really important for the safety of everyone participating,
and for me it was very informative since I have
never been formally trained how to handle or shoot
a auto-loading rifle or pistol, and the Gunsite’s
Range Master, Mike Moore, provided us with a great
overview on gun safety in our condensed training
course, and the key thing to always remember when
handling any firearm is the following:
|
All guns are always loaded
Never let the muzzle cover anything you
are not willing to destroy
Keep your finger off the trigger until
your sights are on the target
Be sure of your target |
After our classroom firearm safety training, it
was time to head outside and check out the new
Yamaha Special Edition Grizzly 700 Utility ATV
and Rhino 700 SxS. I must say these are some sharp
looking units with the matte black fenders and
aluminum wheels, and Yamaha outfitted the units
with a wide array of Yamaha accessories from gun
holders, cargo boxes, front grab bars, fender
extensions, and spot lights.

Yamaha's
Pat Biolsi went over the 2013 Yamaha SE
Tactical Black Rhino & Grizzly features
& he also pointed out the many Yamaha
accessories added to the vehicles from
from gun holders, cargo boxes, front grab
bars, fender extensions, and spot lights. |
Next, we then headed to the shooting range
from some hands on training with the Ruger SR-556
auto loading rifle and SR-9c pistol. We were
instructed on everything from the gun operation,
handling, and shooting, and once again, the
Gunsite staff was very informative and taught
this gun rookie how to safely handle these firearms.
|
After wrapping up our classrom training,
it was time to head to the shooting range
for some hands on gun safety training
and target shooting with both the pistol
& rifle |
We fired off several magazines of Hornady ammunition
through each Ruger gun on day one just getting
use to the firearms. I was right at home with
the Ruger SR-556 since I had plenty of experience
shooting hunting rifles in the past, but I needed
the most instruction on properly handling the
SR-9c pistol, since I only fired a pistol one
other time in my life, and I didn’t have
it holstered at my hip, so this was an all-new
experience for me pulling a pistol out of the
holster and firing it at a target, but by the
end of the day, I felt much more comfortable
handling and shooting the pistol, but my aim
was still to be desired, which I planned to
improve upon on day two.

The
Gunsite training team did an excellent
job going over the basics of gun handling
and shooting & they even taught us
how to do quick reloads
