Harold
Goodman launches the uphill hill double
with ease on the YFZ450R |
The first two laps, we all took it a little easy
just to get a feel of the controls and how the
YFZ450R handled on a pro-level tack. Surprisingly
by the 2nd or 3rd lap both Keith and Harold were
both hitting nearly all the of the jumps on the
track, and that included the 80ft up hill double!
It was very obvious that both pro racers, were
getting comfortable on the YFZ450R quick.
The Yamaha YFZ450R harnesses a ton of power
from the factory. With its 4-stoke, 449cc, liquid-cooled
fuel injected engine the YFZ450R has the horsepower
to get you around the track fast. One thing
in particular about the YFZ450R power is its
difference between the older carbureted YFZ450
and the new fuel injected model is the power
band. The new YFZ450R has a broader more smooth
power band unlike the snappy power band of its
predecessor.

Harold
Goodman was overall impressed in the power
& handling of the YFZ450R |
Although the power is there, both of our pro racers
were looking for more power on the bottom end.
"The power seemed a little sluggish from
the bottom end but once you got revved up into
the power band it ran really good!” said
Harold.
Although the YFZ450R’s power is
a little corked up on the bottom end from the
factory it is easy to open up the power with just
the addition of an aftermarket exhaust, and GYTR
also offers race-ready head and airfilter setup
for improved performance, so this is an issue
that can easily be resolved, and can be a cheap
fix for anyone wanting to get a little more power
out of the YFZ450R, and compared to any other
stock 450 class ATV, the Yamaha YFZ450R is among
the top performers

GYTR offers a complete line of add-on
components for the YFZ450R, which can
dramatically improve the performance of
the stock YFZ450R & just the addition
of the GYTR exhaust system & airfilter
will provide a 20% increase in HP at 9,500
RPM along with a 10% increase in peak
HP

Keith Little felt extremely comfortable
on the YFZ450R |
“It’s a little different with our
race quads. We spend a lot of time building up
the motor to squeeze every last horsepower out
of it and fine tune the suspension to make the
bike just right” said Harold.
“The
stock YFZ450 had pretty impressive power once
it got into the power band,” Keith Little
stated.
In my opinion the YFZ450R is just fine for
a recreational rider. It has plenty of power
to put to the ground and it can very quickly
get you from point “A” to point
“B” in a matter of seconds.

The
T-Shaped seat design improves rider comfort
& allows riders to easily move around
on the YFZ50R |
The YF450R is one of the most comfortable ATV’s
I have ridden and both Keith and Harold can
agree. “The seat was very comfortable
and easy to move around on unlike what’s
on my Honda” said Keith. The Yamaha YFZ450R
features a T-shaped seat that is wider in the
rear so the rider has more area to move around
on.
The YFZ450R isn’t like some ATV’s
were you lean to one side or the other and you’re
practically sitting on the plastic. The YFZ450R
allows the rider to lean from side to side with
out obstructing the riders’ maneuverability.
Both riders were very happy with the ergonomics
of the YFZ450R.

The
YFZ450R comes stock with ProTaper bars
with 4 position mounting to allow bar
mounting range of 30mm |
The
YFZ450R features very large 65mm wide
foot pegs with kick-ups to provide increased
foot stability |
“The handlebars, seat, and foot pegs
are all in a good location and it doesn’t
have you hunched up” said Keith. The YFZ450R
comes stock with Pro Taper handlebars that are
much stronger than steel bars of its competitors.
The YFZ450R also features the widest pegs in
its class measuring 65mm wide that provide a
large base to stand upon while riding.
