A few hours later, the SxS / UTV race was set
to begin, and I received the fourth lineup position
based on the order I had signed up for the race.
There were 33 UTVs waiting for the green flag
to fly, and when it did, I smashed the gas and
surprised everyone in attendance by grabbing
the Holeshot with the bone stock 2012 Polaris
RZR XP 4 900 LE. By the end of lap one, I had
gained a 19 second lead on second place, and
for the next two hours I gave the vehicle a
pretty good test drive and I was very impressed
with it overall.

To
everyone's surprise Baron was able to
pull the holeshot in the stock 2012 Polaris
RZR XP 4 900 Side-by-Side & also held
the lead for most of the race! |
A little over the hour mark in the two hour
race I could see RJ Anderson catching me in
his two-seater RZR XP 900 and he was coming
up pretty fast. The 4-seater’s fuel gauge
was getting low and I knew I had made big plans
for future testing of this vehicle and for family
trips so I moved out of RJ’s way choosing
not to compromise the vehicle’s future.

2012
Polaris RZR XP 4 900 |
2011
Polaris RZR 4 800 |
The
2012 Polaris RZR XP 4 900 comes with trophy
truck like trailing arms on the rear unlike
the standard a- arm of the RZR 4 800 |
Last year, I raced the SOBOBA GP in the RZR
4 800 and I did not have to refuel during the
two hour race, but the new RZR 4 XP 900 is not
as good on fuel consumption and I wouldn’t
have made it through the two hours on one tank
so I had to make a pit stop and refuel.

The
2012 Polaris RZR XP 900 LE comes with
Electronic Power Steering, which is well
worth the upgrade to the LE model |
The RZR XP 4 900 power is great and incredibly
smooth, although I feel it is less than the
standard two-seater XP because of the added
weight and length, I was still able to get a
top speed of about 70mph. In addition, the vehicle
didn’t have any problem performing at
its peak in the dusty conditions. The added
power steering in the Limited Edition is a must
have upgrade because it makes the RZR so much
easier to control and enjoyable to drive, which
really made a difference for me on the race
track.

The
26" Maxxis Big Horn tires on our
RZR XP 4 900 LE hooked up great in the
various terrain at the 2012 SOBOBA GP |
The RZR XP 4 900 LE comes with 26” Maxxis
Big Horn tires, which are one inch smaller than
standard RZR XP 4 900 stock tires and they definitely
out perform them especially catching traction
on the start. This particular course had a rocky
section through a rough sand wash and I never
got a flat.
When the checkered flag flew at the end of
the two hours, out of 33 cars there was only
one car in front of my RZR XP 4 900 and nine
minutes between it and the third place car.
My overall impression of the four-seat RZR XP
4 900 was great, and the durability of the car
as a whole is pretty amazing. When I purchase
my own personal UTV, it would definitely be
my vehicle of choice.
