2013 Can-Am Maverick 1000R & 1000R X rs SxS Test Drive Review
::Continued::

The Maverick 1000R is complete with FOX Podium Performance RC2.0 piggyback shocks. The 1000R didn’t handle quite as well as the upgraded version, however, if we would have tweaked the set-up we feel we could’ve got a smoother ride. The machine tracked really well and stayed where we put it. It wasn’t jerky or hard to steer. Piplic did notice a little bit of drift in the higher speeds, but overall the machine handled great.

Maxxis Bighorn 2.0 tires come stock on both the 2013 Can-Am Maverick 1000R & 1000R X rs. The Maxxis Bighorn 2.0 tires provide great traction in all terrain & have stiff sidewalls that limits body roll

Each Maverick is also complete with Maxxis Big Horn tires. The tires got great traction over all the terrain. We hit slick rocks, sand, and rocky hills and the tires never wavered. We didn’t notice anyone with a flat either, which attests to the durability of the Maxxis tires. The stout sidewalls on the tires also limit body roll in turns, which makes for a more predictable steering.

“The Maxxis Big Horns are a proven tire for me. I don’t get flats, I get good traction and they are just a great all around tire. The predictability is there and they corner really well,” said Piplic.

The machines exquisite handling can also be attributed to the braking system. The Maverick comes with predictable brakes and an engine brake. The machine easily comes to quick and controlled stops. The rear end doesn’t slide out on you and leaves you feeling safe and in control after a quick stop.

Can-Am's braking system on the all-new Can-Am Maverick SxS is one of the reasons why it handles so well. The engine braking works great for slowing down & its ventilated disk brakes with hydraulic twin-piston caliper bring the SxS to a halt when needed

“It’s one thing to go super-fast, but another to be able to stop. It’s a big key to a great machine and the Maverick has it,” said Piplic.

The engine braking system on the Can-Am Maverick is phenomenal. It is awesome to use while going down hills. It takes the nervousness and unpredictability out of descents. In low gear, the engine brake engaged, and the Maverick maintained a three miles per hour speed going down a steep grade. In high gear, the Maverick will head down a hill around seven miles per hour, and once you give it gas, the engine braking is released the Maverick will quickly pickup speed.

The Maverick not only features 2-wheel drive and 4-wheel drive, but also a sport mode. Sport mode makes a huge difference. It changes the shifting points and puts the Maverick into full blown race mode.

The 2013 Can-Am Maverick SxS features a sport mode which changes shifting points giving its passenger & driver the most out of the machine

“While in sport mode, I felt I could easily hit any jump, go anywhere and still have total control,” regards Piplic.
