WORCS Round #9 - Links
2006 WORCS Pro ATV Champion
#1 Doug Eichner
Pismo Beach, CA - The last round of the WORCS Series was here at last, and it would be a memorable one with both the ATVs and motorcycles not only racing on the same weekend, but also at the exact same time on parallel race tracks. The Pismo Sand Dunes provided the perfect location for such a unique showdown, and over 1045 riders signed up to compete, which also reinforced why the ATVs and motorcycles were split into two separate race schedules.

The Pro Class Championship was wrapped up by Doug Eichner at Bull Hollow MX, but he was determined as ever to capture yet another win in front of a home state crowd, and Josh Frederick and Brandon Brown were going to do their best to finish out the year on top. It was going to be interesting to see who would take home the win for the day, and who knew how to ride in the sand dunes. The start was interesting, because it was just a long straight of whoops, so you would think who ever would just hold it open would grabbed the hole shot, but they were the ones who were flipped upside down on the side of the track, just ask Pro am rider, Justin Waters, because that is exactly what he did.

#98 John Shafe
The pros lined up to race, and there where 19 pros signed up. But it was Doug Eichner who was able to grab the holeshot. John Shafe was in the second spot right behind Eichner. The cool thing about the pro class is they had both the quads and the Dirt bikes going at the same time, so there was just a sea of off-road vehicles coming into the corner. Doug Eichner was running out front, followed by John Shafe in the second position, and Brandon Brown running in third. Robbie Mitchell was up to fourth and Josh Frederick was running in fifth. Once again, Josh Frederick was plagued with bad luck and experienced some engine issues only two laps into the race, which ended his race day early. Levi Marana was making his way through the pack from starting in eighth to moving up to fourth by the fourth lap. Doug Eichner wasted no time pulling away from John Shafe in second, and began to build a comfortable lead while Shafe was beginning to feel the pressure from Brandon Brown in third. Brown would eventually make the pass on Shafe, but there was little hope for Brown to attempt to reel in Eichner.

#2 Brandon Brown
When the checkered flag flew, Doug Eichner showed us why he is the 2006 WORCS Champion, as he grabbed his sixth Pro win of the year. Brandon Brown held onto second place followed by John Shafe rounding out the top three. Levi Marana rode hard, but was just out of the top three finishing in fourth, and Robbie Mitchell grabbed the fifth place position.

Doug Eichner won the 2006 WORCS Pro title with 255 points in the series Josh Frederick grabbed the second spot for the year with 190 points, and Brandon Brown rounded out the top three with 158 points. Congratulations to everyone who raced this year, and we cant wait to see who will take home the pro championship next year.

Pro Am Class
The Pro Am Class Championship was still up for grabs with Justin Waters in the lead with Dax Snow and Paul Wilkerson within reach of catching Waters in the final round, and right off the start, bad luck struck for Waters as he crashed hammering through the whoops, which sent him back to last place and opened the door for Wilkerson and Snow.

The Holeshot would go to Mike Kelley followed closely by Bryan Grey. Unfortunately both of these riders only made it about two laps, before the pair both experienced quad issues, which ended their races early. Andrew Lattimar capitalized on the situation and took over the lead, but it would not be long before Dillon Zimmerman would pass Lattimar to claim the lead with Barry Bennett, who usually races in the +30 A class moving into the third.

The Pro Am class points leader, Justin Waters began his charge from last place and was able to pass both Snow and Wilkerson along the way. By half-way through the race, Waters was able to reel in Bennett and take over the third spot. Dillon Zimmerman was able to hold onto the first place overall for the day, with Andrew Lattimar grabbing the second place position followed by Waters. Paul Wikerson and Ira Greer rounded out the top five.

#95 Justin Waters
Justin Waters grabbed the Championship for the Pro-Am class with 127 points. Waters experienced many difficulties this year between crashing and breaking, to just breaking, to having electrical issues, but he still was able to overcome the obstacles to claim the Pro Am Championship. Dax Snow grabbed the second place position and Paul Wilkerson rounded out the top three with only one point separating the pair. Way to go guys, and you can bet that we will be watching for you in the pro class next year.

Congratulations to everyone who raced this year, and we look forward to seeing everyone back next year for the 2007 WORCS Series, which begins on January 26-28th in Surprise, AZ at Speed World.
