Glen Helen WORCS Pro SXS Race
Report
::Continued::
Piplic has a torn ligament in one of his wrists,
but still took the holeshot. Despite driving one
handed, he managed to hold off a charging Haagsma
to finish second.
 |
Polaris'
Ryan Piplic claimed the physical win, but
was scored in 2nd place on adjusted by while
driving with just one hand |
“Haagsma started pushing us really hard so I
had to start taking off,” said Piplic. “On the
last lap, Granlund was catching up to us, and
I was having enough trouble getting past people
with my wrist. The lapped traffic played a huge
role today. When it comes down to the points scheme,
I’m happy to come with a few points gained.”
The event featured a new flagman for the start
and Haagsma misjudged the wave of the green flag.
Despite the slow start, he was quickly up to Piplic
and the two battled for most of the race. His
third-place finish allows him to pad his points
lead going into the summer break. Interestingly,
Haagsma has driven a naturally aspirated car in
every race this season and has only finished off
the podium once in Pro.

Sparks
Racing's David Haagsma secured the final
spot on the podium, but he lost 2 points
to Ryan Piplic, closing the points gap to
just 12 points heading into the final two
rounds of the season in the fall |
“We had a different starter today and I was sleeping
on the start, so I had to work my way up,” said
Haagsma. “A couple laps in, I got past Keith Johnson
and I gained a lot of speed there. Piplic and
I played accordion the whole time and that really
let Granlund gain on us. I’m still happy because
I’m watching the points, trying to stay consistent
and not do anything stupid. We’ll be back here
in September and do it again.”

Baron was happy to score another finish in what
has become a battle in the points. Despite being
several positions out of the lead, he is still
eyeing the Pro championship.

Block's Beau Baron finished in the 4th spot,
which moved him to with 5 points of Matt
Hancock & Keith Johnson tied for Top
5 in points |
“I made points and they’re important,” said Baron.
“The main goal is a championship. During the break,
I’m just going to try to get all of my stuff ready
for the next race, park it and go ride my dirt
bike so I can get back in shape. I’ve just been
working at getting ready for the next race with
no training in between. I put in 80 hours between
each race just to get my SXS ready. So I’m going
to get back into training, get back in shop so
when I come back I can whoop them.”
