Martin Plechatý
was awarded the Leg 1 win after 5 hours
of penalties were applied to the first
3 finishers for missing 5 time checks

Unfortunately the 5h of penalties inflicted on the
first three for skipping 5 time checks turned the
classification around, putting Plechatý in
the lead, with Scandola and Toffolatti, hot on his
heels, both giving excellent performances and at
ease on the ever-changing treacherous terrain. Behind
them, with plenty of hours to make up, Laskawiec,
Machacek, who decided not to start the day after,
Acurcio and all the rest.
Final leg 1: Plechatý 3:33’50”,
Scandola (1 hour of penalty) to 1:25’:29”,
Toffolatti (1 hour of penalty) to 1:26’:28”.
Follow Laskawiec, Machacek, Acurcio, Gonzales,
Kubiena, Rostowski who skipped 5 time checks and
incurred a 5-hour penalty and the others.
On the second day, after an afternoon and night
of rain, the Organizer decided to shorten the track
by about 10 km, to avoid the flooded areas. The
modified course, similar to the one of the previous
day, was covered in the opposite direction, again
five times. The rain kept off but the mud remained
the number one enemy.
The spectators and photographers knew this only
too well and hardly recognized the vehicles and
drivers, who were transformed into clay sculptures.

Scandola snatched up fourth place on his
Can-Am Renegade ATV |
Acurcio sharpened his claws, and achieved a perfect
leg, using his energy and vehicle sparingly, but
more importantly avoiding penalties.The young
Portuguese clinched the leg with a time of 2h:41’:47”,
leaving the Pole Laskawiec 2’:24”
and Czech Plechatý 10’:28”
behind. The two chasers however were sanctioned
again at the end of the race with a 60-minute
penalty.

Pietro Toffolatti
grabbed sixth place overall for the weekend
just behind Gonzales Scandola
|
Scandola, unrelenting even in the mud, took fourth
place, with Gonzales and Toffolatti on his heels,
with a gap of just a few minutes, while Cuffaro
clocked up in excess of 7 hours.
Rostowski was forced to come in for assistance,
accumulating 11h of penalties, due to the cooling
system on his KTM breaking down.
Final leg 2: Acurcio 2h:41’:47”,
Laskawiec to 1:02’:24”, Plechatý
to 1:10’:28”, Scandola to 1:30’:08”
and Gonzales to 1:32’:20”. Follow
Toffolati, Cuffaro e Rostowski.
The sum of the times saw the Czech Plechatý
clinch the Baja Saxonia 2010, followed by the
extremely consistent Italian standard-bearers,
Scandola and Toffolatti. Behind them Laskawiec
and Acurcio, craving revenge and ready to risk
all on the dusty straights of Melfi.
