Fort Worth, TX (3/2/2013) - The
2013 Dockside Marine TQRA Championship headed
to Ft. Worth, TX for round 1 at Village Creek
Motocross Park. The first round of the series
was a huge success with over 400 spectators in
attendance with 170 race entries. The TQRA also
held a benefit auction for the Moore Family and
was able to raise $14,500!
Saturday hosted a full day of practice as well as our fundraising activities for the Moore Family. Caleb Moore passed away on January 31st, 2013 after a crash competing in Winter X Games.
Caleb and his family grew up racing with the TQRA series and is where his first freestyle explorations began. The entire TQRA family has been greatly saddened by the loss of our friend Caleb and we send our deepest condolences to the Moore Family. Many TQRA volunteers and companies within the industry donated product, food, and more to help raise money for the Moore Family. A silent auction was held with some of Caleb and Colten’s X games memorabilia. A chili cook off, “S’Moore Station”, Baked goods, t-shirt sales, and raffle prizes were also sold to help raise money.
The TQRA is now changing the name of our annual
North vs. South race to the “Caleb Moore
Memorial Challenge” in Caleb’s honor.
This race will be hosted at Underground MX Park
in Kemp, TX on October 5-6, 2013. We
will be raffling off one of Caleb’s Polaris
525 ATV’s at this event. The TQRA will
be selling tickets all year long for $20 each
to continue to raise money to help the Moore
Family.
Sunday’s racing was filled with great racing action all weekend long! The Expert and Pro am class hosted some of the most exciting racing in the history of the TQRA. Media Allstar’s 16 year old rookie Pake Shinn made the move up to the Expert and Pro am class to test his skills against season veteran’s Johnny Hale, and the Miller Brothers. In the first race of the Expert class Pake Shinn grabbed the holeshot and held on to the lead for the first 4 laps of the race.
Hunter Miller took advantage of a small mistake the rookie Shinn made in a corner making a clean pass followed by his brother Cody Miller. Hunter Miller rode a solid 8 laps and was able to win moto one of the Expert class aboard his Can Am DS 450. Moto 2 holeshot went to Media Allstar rider Pake Shinn once again as he sprinted to stay infront of the hard charging Miller Brothers. Cody Miller was right on Shinns bumper as he looked for an open line to make a pass. Cody was able to pass Shinn around midway through the second moto and was able to take the overall win in Expert with a 2-1 finish. Hunter Miller was able to pass shinn in the closing laps of the Expert moto taking second place on the podium followed by Pake Shinn for third.
The first Pro am moto holeshot went to Kyle Dill on his JH Racing machine. Pake Shinn was able to quickly pass Dill for first place. Cody Miller came charging through with his sights set on Shinn. Pake had learned from his earlier motos and began to guard his lines making it more difficult for Miller to make a pass. After applying pressure for a few laps C. Miller was able to make a pass on Shinn for the first pro am moto win. Hunter Miller was able to pass Shinn for second place. In the second Pro am moto Pake Shinn grabbed another holeshot followed by Cody and Hunter Miller.
This race proved to be the most exciting of the weekend. Shinn and the Miller Brothers were 3 riders wide in almost every corner for the 6 lap race. Pake had learned from his earlier mistakes and was riding a very solid race as he held of the factory Can Am racers. Cody Miller made many challenges for the lead on the rookie but could not make a pass. In the last corner before the checkered flag Pake dove to the inside to protect his lead.
Cody Miller railed an outside rut in a last chance attempt for the lead. Pake drifted outside and collided with Cody Miller entangling the two rider’s tires. Hunter Miller squeaks by the two tangled riders for the win. Cody Miller slams Pake into a tree to free the two riders and sprints to the finish line for second place giving himself first place overall for the Pro am class for the weekend.
