Stateline ATV SuperMoto Main Events
When the gate dropped for the Pro main event, Daryl Rath, who got second pick for the gate, grabbed the holeshot and never looked back. Rath credits the larger 525cc engine with playing a big part in being able to get out of the hole quickly. “The Polaris ran great! It had lots of power and got off the line really quick.” He said. “Since the pro class is an unlimited class, the bigger CC motors are really an advantage in this type of racing.” A bit of a snarl-up in lap three allowed Rath to really check out from the rest of the pack when Landon Hurst, who was running in second place, ended up having a close encounter with a hay bail that put him out of contention, and almost took out third place racer, Frank Batista in the process. “When Hurst crashed he almost took Frank out and it slowed up the rest of the pack also. My crew said I had about a 23 second lead on everyone at that point.” Stated Rath. Hurst’s crash slowed up the rest of the pack, but allowed Batista to take second, and put Granlund in third.

Batista’s Honda 450R (with a new Curtis Sparks 510 kit) was keeping a nice lead on Granlund until the 8th lap, when Batista’s seat came off. “I’ve got some nice big bruises on my backside from that!” Joked Batista. “I was trying to hit the jumps and the whoops hard and hold Nic off, but without a seat it was really difficult to do that and it got the best of me after a while.” He stated. In the mean time, Granlund knew that Batista could not keep up the fast pace he had been running for much longer and was waiting for an opportunity to make the pass for second. Despite the beating he was taking from his own machine, Batista managed to hold off Granlund until the last lap of the race. When it was all said and done, Daryl Rath took first place with Nic Granlund in second, and Frank Batista claimed the last spot on the podium. Dennis Capogni came away with a 4th place finish and Kenny Pacheco rounded out the top five.

There are normally two Stateline Supermoto races per year. The next race is slated for sometime in April of ’08. You can visit www.snvsupermoto.com to see the full race results, pre-register for races and get more information on this event.
