Nic Granlund Sweeps Stateline Super Moto
Challenge on his Yamaha YFZ450 |
Primm,
NV (4/9/2008) –
Buffalo Bill’s Casino once again played host
to the 4th Annual Stateline Supermoto. This year’s
event saw Polaris/Eichner Racing’s Doug Eichner
make his Supermoto debut, but it was Nic Granlund
that stole the show as he put the hammer down and
took the Pro-Am Unlimited Championship and regained
his crown as the Quad Pro champ.
Granlund, who is a long-time racer and advocate
of Supermoto, also put on a special Supermoto
riding school on Thursday, which was quite a success
according to the Stockholm, Sweden native, who
now resides in Las Vegas. “I think most
of my students won in their classes this weekend,”
Nic said proudly. Granlund’s school covers
all the basics including proper safety equipment,
bike set-up and modifications, and riding techniques
that are specific to Supermoto style racing.

Buffalo
Bills Resort & Casino was once again
hosted the Stateline Super Moto Challenge |
This year’s Supermoto event, which was
sponsored in part by Rath Racing and Duro Tires,
saw a few changes in the ATV classes, with a 450cc
limit handed down to the Quad Pro class, along
with the addition of several new classes including
“Intermediate”, “14-25 Yrs.”,
“Vet 25+” and the “Pro-Am Unlimited”.
The changes were made in order to level the playing
field a little, and officials also hope it helps
to introduce new riders to the sport who may have
been reluctant to sign up in the past due to limited
class options.

Frank Batista signed on with Polaris for
2008 to race the Outlaw 450MXR & Sportman
Utility ATVs |
Events kicked off on Friday with practices, SxS
races, and Team races. Frank Batista, who was
racing for the first time aboard his factory Polaris
450MXR, had a tough go of things when he crashed
and tore up the front of his quad. Fortunately,
Frank was not hurt, but bad luck continued to
plague him on Saturday. “Things didn’t
go so well for me. I crashed on Friday and then
I blew the motor during the heat races on Saturday,”
Frank said disappointedly. Luckily the Polaris
team was able to get Frank back in action for
the next day’s races.
Saturday’s events did not just consist
of racing, there was also a Rider Appreciation
Party held on Saturday night after the races with
live music and plenty of sponsor goods that were
given away.
