Dirkie Baard continues to move up the ranks
with a career best 3rd place finish at Cahuilla
Creek MX |
South African racer Dirkie Baard stepped up his
game for round three and was looking good as he
battled it out with Josh Row. In the first moto,
Baard was in fourth behind Row but could not get
around him before reaching the finish line, but
in moto two, Baard was able to capitalize on a bobble
by Row and take a third place finish, giving him
third over for the day and his first pro podium
while racing in the states.
“I’m really excited to be on the
podium finally. I have been working really hard
and I want to do well here, so I am happy with
my race,” said Baard.
Yamaha’s Josh Row has been dialing in his
new ride and looked like he was having a bit better
results than at the last round. Row has also been
training hard with Dustin Nelson in order to improve
on his motocross skills and it showed as Row claimed
solid 3-4 finishes claiming fourth overall.

Ethan Thatcher rounded out the Top 5 |
Ethan Thatcher was nothing if not consistent for
round three as he held off Dillon Zimmerman and
Jesse Gosse to take a pair of fifth place finishes
allowing him to round out the top five overall for
the day.
Can-Am/Motoworks’ Dillon Zimmerman was
on hand for this round as he was trying to get
in some seat time and get stronger as he recovers
from an injury that has slowed his efforts this
season. While he is still not at 100%, Zimmerman
held on for 7-6 finishes after battling it out
with David Haagsma to take sixth overall.
MCR/Maxxis Tire’s David Haagsma has always
been a close rival of Zimmerman’s on the
track and it showed as he went bar to bar with
Zimmerman, but this round did not end in Haagsma’s
favor as he would take 8-7 finishes for seventh
overall.
Jesse Gosse had a good first moto as he finished
in a solid sixth place and followed it up with
ninth in moto two, giving him eighth place overall
while Justin Jones hung on for ninth and Jason
Fife’s 12-8 had him rounding out the top
ten.

Duncan Racing's Garrin Fuller claimed the
Pro-Am Overall Win |
In the Pro-am class, Garrin Fuller took his second
overall victory of the season as he claimed both
moto wins to top the Pro-am podium. Fuller’s
solid performance has him as the current points
leader in his class.
MCR/Maxxis Tire’s Mike Cafro decided to
try his hand at motocross this round and claimed
second overall in the Pro-am class. Cafro battled
it out with Chase Thomas and Clay Forenpohar but
stayed consistent with 4-3 finishes that would
give him second overall, while Chase Thomas rounded
out the Pro-am podium with 3-5 finishes. Clay
Forenpohar hung on for fourth and Daniel Ramirez
rounded out the top five overall.
Round number four of the 2011 Yamaha QuadX series
will be heading to the desert southwest of Surprise,
AZ on June 18th, where Speedworld MX will play
host to the first of two night races this season.
The night races always provide a unique set of
challenges for racers but Dustin Nelson will be
on top of his game as he tries to hold Beau Baron
who is determined to break Nelson’s winning
streak.
