Maxxis' Beau Baron holding the 2nd spot
with Justin Jones in chase |
MCR/Maxxis Tire’s Beau Baron didn’t
get the start he was hoping for in the first moto,
but he pressed on and was able o make his way through
traffic. “It was tough off the start. I was
in about fifth and there was people spinning out
all over the place, but I got by and I caught up
to Dustin, but I was eating a lot of mud being behind
him and it was getting caked in my radiator and
making the quad overheat so I had to back off a
bit,” said Baron, who had to settle for a
respectable second place in moto one.
Moto two was nothing short of a nail biter for
Baron as he grabbed the moto two holeshot with
Nelson right on his tail. Baron held off Nelson
until the second lap before track conditions got
the best of him.

Beau Baron once again takes the 2nd spot
for a 2nd Overall finish |
“I was out frint and my front tire caught
a rut and I almost went over the bars. That gave
Dustin enough time to get by me,” explained
Baron, who stayed right on Nelson’s grab bar
and gave him a huge fight until the final lap. “I
was right there and I was going to go for it and
I got all messed up coming into a corner when I
blew the bead on my tire and ended up getting thrown
off the quad. Luckily we had about a one minute
lead and I got back on a limped it to the finish
line,” said Baron, whose 2-2 finishes gave
him second overall.
Suzuki mounted Evan Thatcher charged hard despite
the poor conditions and battled it out with Justin
Jones in both motos, but Thatcher charged hard
and his solid 4-3 finishes were enough to put
him in the final spot on the pro podium. Justin
Jones gave it a good effort, but was not able
to get by Thatcher in the final moto and would
settle for 3-4 finishes, giving him fourth overall.

Dirkie
Baard claims a Top 5 Overall |
South African racer Dirkie Baard was looking
solid as he was able to take a pair of fifth place
finishes to round out the top five overall in
the Pro class.
John Shafe was able to go 7-7 for sixth overall
with Jesse Goss taking seventh. Former Open Pro
champ, Darrell Patton made a solid effort to finish
in eighth place.
Yamaha’s Josh Row had tough day for his
first round of the Quad-X series. Row was not
feeling well, but still chose to race. Row would
take a respectable sixth place finish in moto
one, but things did not go so well for him in
moto two as he suffered a nasty crash.
Luckily Row came away from the incident with
only some bumps and bruises and continued to finish
the race. Row took a 13th place finish in moto
two that would put him in ninth overall.
In the Pro-am class, Tyler Wood checked out on
the competition with a couple of moto wins that
gave him the overall Pro-am win. Garrin Fuller
gave a consistent performance with 3-4 finishes
that gave him second overall, while Clay Forenpohar
rounded out the Pro-am podium.
Round two of the 2011 Yamaha Quad-X Racing Series
will head to Buckeye,AZ on April 17th where Arizona
Cycle Park will play host to hopefully more favorable
weather conditions as Yamaha’s Dustin Nelson
will be going for his second win as he defends
his Pro ATV Championship.
