Round four of the OXC Series was held in Summersville,
Missouri hosted by landowner Rick Roberts. It
was virgin territory for the competitors and no
one knew what to expect. The talk was great for
weeks prior to the event in anticipation. This
venue would end up being the hardest challenge
faced this season, but would quickly become a
favorite among the riders when the day was done.
The six-mile track had some great technical sections
including huge hill-climbs, whooped-out dry creek
beds, boulder fields, downhill slides, tight sections
through ravines, off camber sections, a few passing
areas, and even an oak tree arch with OXC.com
carved into it allowing a nice photo opportunity
by Miller Photography. “Rekluse Ravine”
was the name for the first section of the track
consisting of a rough trail through a rocky creek
bed one mile long. An instant favorite was the
ravine with 10’-12’ high bank walls
just wide enough for a quad to pass through. Tony
Shepherd from the Pro-Am class said there were
so many rocks being kicked back by the other racers
that it felt like a game of dodge ball on quads.

Carson Coffman
pulled the PRO class holeshot
|
Ten Pro riders lined up in the afternoon with only
one thing on their minds…..the win!!! It was
Carson Coffman on his Dirtworks/Rekluse/Fox Shox/Moose
sponsored Honda 450R that pulled the holeshot and
led for the first lap of the race. Kyle Martin on
his Dirtworks/Fox Shox/Fly Racing prepped Honda
450R took over the lead just before the end of the
second lap from Coffman. In the third lap Bryan
Hulsey made his move and went from 5th up to second
behind Martin, while the other riders where stuck
in a good size bottle neck at the bottom of the
big hill-climb. Later that lap, Martin killed his
bike (unable to restart it quick enough), and Hulsey
took the lead only to run into lappers and get stuck
on the side of the track giving DJ Shrum the lead,
followed by Martin and Michael Burrows. The entire
time, Michael Burrows had been working his way up
through the pack aboard his Dirtworks/Teixeria/IMS
prepped 07 Honda 450R, from dead last off the starting
line, wrecking, and riding with the pro-am class
during the first lap. Burrows completed the fastest
lap of the day on lap 2 with a 17:30 minute time.
After maintaining the lead for the last 2 laps,
it looked like Shrum was going to get his spot on
the podium, only to get stuck in a bottleneck, allowing
Burrows to find an alternative line by jumping a
ditch and taking the lead. Second went to Hulsey
followed by Martin, Josh Eaton and Shrum rounding
out the top five. Burrows contributes his win to
a good eye for lines, and LUCK!!!

Top 5 Overall:
Burrows, Hulsey, Martin, Eaton & Shrum

Justin Rains dominated the Pro-Am class with
a first place finish on all five laps. He was
followed by Tony Friga in second, Greg Atkins,
Jeff Schrock, and Jeff Range in fifth.
Matt Willier took a six minute lead in the A
class over second place Sam Coleman, followed
by Bryan Payne, Grady Rogers and Dwayne Schwartz.
Perfect weather and not a drop of mud on the
track made for easy clean up. Let’s just
hope there’s not too many repairs required
before the next race April 4th in Lincoln, Missouri.
