John Pitts
may have been completely drained of energy
after the race but he still pulled out
a very respectable 3rd place finish at

John Pitts took home third place for his efforts,
but he was suffering at the end. After the race
he said “I am whooped. I’m tired.”
Pitts admits to not training hard enough during
the week, but he held on to finish this one with
a good battle all day long. Five of the ten laps
show Pitts just one second behind Hulsey, and
the largest gap all day between the two Missouri
based friends was fifteen seconds. “It was
a good race,” said Pitts. “It was
a lot of fun. I ended up riding with Bryan most
of the track. He’d gap me every lap when
we came in to the whoop section of the motocross
track. Then I’d try and track him down.
Finally, by the finish (of the lap), I’d
be pretty close, within a couple seconds of him,
and back in to the whoops he’d get me again.”
After nine laps of the same routine, Pitts was
going to make his move. “The last lap, I
knew if I gave it everything I have to stay with
him through the whoops, I had a line picked out.
I had him,” recalled Pitts. The term banging
bars was put to good use by these two men and
their nearly identical Dirtworks Motorsports Duncan
Racing Hondas. Unfortunately for Pitts, his late
race pass attempt on the whoops section found
him banging bars with Hulsey, and then taking
a trip over the bars and “wadding it up.”
According to Pitts, “I had a wheel on him,
but we came together. I went over the bars and
I ended up not getting the pass. I knew there
was no passing after that, so I kind of just backed
down for the last lap and said lets finish the
race. It’s always a good day if I can finish
at the end of the day close to one of those two.
I was happy to be as close as I was throughout
the race.”
Kyle Martin started the second half of his season
at the amazing Millville racing facility with
a much needed win and a determination to retain
the series championship for 2010. Bryan Hulsey
struggled with the woods at this event, but still
holds a slight lead over Martin. Meanwhile, John
Pitts is tied with Martin. The boys from Missouri
are duking it out at every race, and the spectators
are getting a great show in the process. These
guys are committed to the series that can beat
you up and make you a better racer at the same
time.
