Memphis, MO - The Mid-America MX
Park near Memphis, Missouri hosted round nine of
the Parts Unlimited OMA Nationals series. Conditions
for the race were dry and somewhat dusty in a few
sections, but according to reigning OMA Nationals
champion Bryan Hulsey “it was an excellent
course.” When the green flag flew it was Shane
Gaunt nosing his Moose Racing Rekluse Honda through
the first turn ahead of The Dirtworks Motorsports
HMF Honda of Kyle Martin. As the pack entered their
first woods section, Martin took the lead and started
charging forward. Bryan Hulsey managed to get his
Duncan Racing ODI Honda past Martin, then John Pitts
make a few good moves to put his Dirtworks Motorsports
EBC Powermadd Honda through the Moose Racing scoring
tent to lead lap number one. Gaunt was also in the
mix for part of the first lap, passing Martin early
but losing ground when he had what Martin witnessed
as “a bad get off out there.” The teenager
from Illinois put his Fasst Flexx Lonestar Honda
in the trailer early after the machine quit running,
apparently suffering some ill effects from his crash.
After nearly two hours of battle Kyle Martin finally
shook the group and cleared the scoring tent first
on lap number eight. Hulsey captured second place
with a deficit of one minute and thirty three seconds.
John Pitts followed Hulsey to claim his spot on
the all Missouri Rekluse equipped pro podium. Fourth
place overall was claimed by The No-Toil Pivot Works
Dirtworks Motorsports Honda of A class rider Dan
Schaefer, while Matt Keaton completed the top five
overall riding another A class Honda.

“I thought I was going to be able to make
some dust for these guys,” said Martin.
“But Bryan (Hulsey) put a good line on me,
passed me first lap. I blew a corner and John
(Pitts) got by me, and that’s how we came
in.” with lap one in the books, Martin decided
it was time to get his Maxxis Roll Design Honda
out front. “I watched Shane Gaunt take a
tumble out there,” recalled Martin. “That’s
how we got around him. After that I was able to
pass both these guys and really start dusting
them out. When I got in the lead I was able to
push. The motor ran hard and it worked out.”
According to Martin “The bike ran awesome.
Out there in the clean air its lots easier to
see, plus the air filter doesn’t get plugged
up and you can really just stay on the gas. On
this track, a lot of open field sections, you
could really get on it and put some time between
them.” This victory marks six in a row for
Martin aboard his Wiseco Performance Products
DWT Hot Cams Honda, and locks him in for first
place in the Parts Unlimited OMA Nationals season
championship.

The Dirtworks Motorsports
Moose Racing Honda of Bryan Hulsey put
in a strong race at the Maxxis Moonshine
XC, capturing second place for the former
series champion.

Second place went to last year’s series champion
Bryan Hulsey riding the number one UM Performance
Moose Racing Honda. After getting what he called
“a decent start out behind Kyle,” Hulsey
took advantage of a good line and got around Martin.
“Then John got by me,” said Hulsey,
“and we were mixing it up out there pretty
good. I got back up on John and he had a little
bit of a problem. He pulled over and fixed a fuel
line or something. That put me in second, and I
tried to chase Kyle down, but I couldn’t get
him.” After two hours and fifteen seconds
of racing Hulsey completed lap eight with the JE
Pistons Maxima Oils Honda, capturing second place
and collecting twenty five valuable championship
points in the process. The always friendly and smiling
Missouri racer said “it was pretty fun running.
The course was excellent.”
