The Dirtworks Motorsports
Moose Racing Honda of John Pitts blasted
down a fast wooded trail section at
the OMA Nationals round eight event.
Pitts captured third place in the event
and moved himself to 2nd in points standings.
|
John Pitts had a good day, but admitted to making
“one mistake all day.” Too bad that
mistake was directly in front of one very determined
KTM rider named Josh Beavers. “Of course
that’s when Josh (Beavers) was right behind
me and he capitalized on it and got me,”
said Pitts. “I pushed out of a berm, and
there he was.” After that simple mistake
it was all Pitts could do to hang on and keep
his IMS ODI Flexx handlebars Honda close to Beavers
for third place. “I tried to stay with him,”
Pitts recalled. “With the dust and everything
I just couldn’t hang with him. The long
field sections toward the end of the course were
just getting really rough.” At the end of
twelve laps John Pitts made his way to another
OMA Nationals podium. Ending his day with a smile,
Pitts said “the course was a lot of fun.
I enjoyed it a lot. It had a lot of technical
spots and everything was good.”

Former OMA Nationals
series champion Rob Zimmerman made an
appearance at the round eight event
riding a Moose Racing Maxxis Douglas
Wheels Honda. Suffering from a machine
lacking in the power department and
a poor gear choice, Zimmerman fought
hard to make a fourth place pro class
finish.
|
Fourth place was captured by former OMA Nationals
champion Rob Zimmerman riding a Moose Racing Maxxis
Honda that he said was under powered. “It
definitely doesn’t have the power I had
last year,” said the Ohio based racer. “Hulsey
was all over me and I couldn’t motor away
from him. He just had a lot more motor.”
Zimmerman was able to finally pass Hulsey to collect
a fourth place finish for his efforts, leaving
Hulsey sitting in sixth place after the Duncan
Racing Dirtworks Motorsports Honda ran out of
fuel two miles from the finish. “I even
stopped and took about a half a gallon,”
stated Hulsey. “I thought it would get me
to the finish, but it didn’t.” Meanwhile,
A Class racer Tyler Bostock snuck his Honda in
for fifth place overall, beating fifth place pro
racer Shane Gaunt’s GT Thunder Scott Goggles
Honda through the Moose Racing finish line tent
by two minutes and forty seconds. Gaunt struggled
on the first two laps with a failed rear brake
and lost considerable time in the pits effecting
repairs to his machine.
 |
Shane Gaunt was
happy to finish the race at round eight
of the OMA Nationals. Failed rear brakes
slowed the first two laps for his Moose
Racing Rekluse Honda, but quick work
in the pits had Gaunt back out making
up time on the pack, and claiming fifth
place in the pro class.

Some people had good luck while others made
it through their day in Bedford, Indiana after
a struggle. It was another Bill Gusse race course
that challenged all who cared to take the green
flag. In the end, Kyle Martin emerged from the
dust with his fifth consecutive victory in hand.
This was not an easy race, and Martin had to
work hard to hold off the charge of Josh Beavers.
With two more events on the schedule, Kyle Martin
is looking to maintain his position at the head
of the class and capture a Parts Unlimited OMA
Nationals season championship. John Pitts and
Bryan Hulsey still have a chance to stop that
from happening, but it will be tough to stop
their fellow Missouri racer from achieving victory.
Check out omanationals.com for information on
upcoming events, including the season finale,
the famous Moose Run in Morrison, Illinois.
The championship challenge is on, and the fast
boys from Missouri will be battling it out to
the end. This is offroad racing.
