Andy Lagzdins motors
out of the woods
near Hanging Limb, Tennessee at the round
one event. Lagzdins collected a
2nd place finish |
Meanwhile, Rob and I were passing back and forth,
when David Crane got in the mix on his KTM450.
My fingers and thumbs were cold cold and wet,
I couldn’t feel the controls. I couldn’t
actually feel the clutch and throttle, but somehow
everything kept working! Going into the last lap,
I got a pitboard saying Reed was out of the race
and Rob was not far ahead, so I put on a charge.
The fresh goggles I had gotten during the fuel
stop were blurred with water under the rolloff
film from splashing through the stream crossings,
but I tried to keep them on as long as possible.
Then David Crane blew by me on one of the uphills,
so I tossed the goggles and just took the roost
in my face. I was hitting the water holes way
too fast, and closing my eyes as the wave of water
drenched me.

Local
racer Craig Reed had a substantial lead
on lap five of the OMA Nationals Maxxis
Hangman XC. Unfortunately Reed suffered
a front sprocket failure before finishing
lap six. Reed finished the day in thirteenth
place overall and ninth in class |
Series newcomer David Crane took
his brand new KTM to an impressive third
place finish at the Maxxis Hangman XC. The
Mississippi based pro racer pushed on through
wet and chilling conditions to take his
spot on the OMA Nationals podium |

Rob
Zimmerman on his way to victory at the opening
round of the OMA Nationals series. The three
time series champion rode a solid race to
pick up the win |
David momentarily drowned his KTM in the deep
water crossing, and I went around him again. Then
I made a bad line choice and he got by me only
a mile from the finish. I thought I was going
to have to settle for third place, when I came
around a turn and saw David off to the side of
the track, looking at his quad. I thought he might
have thrown a chain or something, but later I
found out he had run out of gas, and his fingers
were so numb he couldn’t turn the fuel onto
reserve!
Rob Zimmerman took the overall win, and I held
on to second ahead of David Crane. Bryan Hulsey
finished fourth, with David Hicks fifth. The OMA
Series goes to Kentucky next, for the Sidi Indian
Bluff XC. See you there!
