NQRA Virginia
Motor Mayhem Round 2 ATV Race Report
::Continued::

Racers &
fans alike wait for the start of the exciting
racing action
|
The turnout at round two was nowhere near what it
was at the opening round, but those numbers would
be hard to beat. Over 700 spectators filled the
stands to watch our sport but this round would have
far fewer. The National MX race would possibly play
a part in that since it was close and on the same
date, but the number of racers remained consistent.
The NQRA understands the importance of bringing
spectators to the races so that our sport can become
more accepted and is one area that they intend to
address.
Dinkins explained “I think we have to do
a better job of attracting spectators as well
as participants. I don't blame it on the economy;
I blame it on various elements fighting for a
limited # of spectator’s time, and their
entertainment budget”.

Race

Another area that the series had high expectations
for is the 4x4 events planned during the event.
Thinking that so many people in our sport own
Utility models that they would flock to an event
that let the average rider participate without
having to break the bank to own a race machine.
Thus far it’s been a bust and hopefully,
with folks knowing this isn’t a mega dollar
deal for them, they may just throw their 4x4 in
the back of the truck and come out and have a
good time and win some prizes and money!
You can add Pit bike racing and SXS racing to
the list of classes offered as well so there is
no excuse why you shouldn’t be at these
events supporting the sport and having a killer
time!

And the fun never seemed to end as the day wore
on. The Pit party was filled with great conversation,
racer interviews and great food! This is the 3rd
NQRA event I have been to that spans many years
and not once, at any event have I not felt like
I was appreciated or wanted and that’s rare
at such an event. I watched as any concern was handled
immediately and any problem dealt with in a most
professional manner. This folks is what we want
in our sport and I wish some of the NQRA’s
atmosphere would rub off on many series and events
around the country. And speaking of prizes, when
was the last time you won a Remington Shotgun at
a race? And instead of a $3 trophy you got cash
money and Gift Cards? The NQRA puts it back in your
hands and that has many racers looking ahead to
the next round this weekend on June 5-6th and hopefully
growing the series even further.
I could spend a few more pages talking about
the racing itself, but to me, the best thing about
the series is the down home feeling you get from
being there. Hopefully we will catch back up with
the series later in the schedule and just maybe
be able to throw a leg over a quad to get some
laps in for ourselves, but if I end up sitting
in the stands watching and enjoying the day that
will be just fine too! We hope to see you there!
