NEATV-MX Racing ATV Motocross Race Report
Preston Young Wins NEATV-MX Round 2

Southwick, MA (5/8/2015) - New England ATV returned to the famed Southwick Motocross track for the second round of the 2015 season. This was the first time Southwick offered an open practice the day before the race and the first time in years that the track was run in the original direction. The weather was perfect and there was a fantastic turn out with Cross Country, Pit Bike, and Side by Side classes all offered in addition to the normal MX schedule.

In the first moto of Pro Open it was Team Southside Polaris’ Mystik Lubricants FXR Racing entry of Cody Paolella who would snag the holeshot. Coming off an overall win in round 1, he seemed to be picking up where he left off. Jared Gessner on his J-Rod Racing Healey Brothers Yamaha would get out second with Dupont, Young, and Troiano in tow. Paolella would lead all 8 laps and take the moto win. Preston Young, last season’s champion was the man on the move. Coming from deep in the field, he would make his way into the 2nd position and challenge Paolella the last couple laps of the moto. Gessner would settle for 3rd. Mike Troiano would make his way past the rookie Dupont for 4th, Dupont settling for 5th.

Moto 2 would see Team Southside Polaris’ SSI Decals Wicked Audio Cody Paolella with another holeshot with the Maxxis Tires Troy Lee Designs Honda of Preston Young getting out second and Gessner taking 3rd. Young would pressure Paolella for the next 3 laps before Paolella was ejected from his quad coming up over one of the hills. Preston would take the lead, Gessner would slide into second and Dupont into 3rd.

Paolella would re-enter the race but would finish off the pace a couple laps down. Gessner applied some pressure to Young but it wasn’t enough, as Young would take the moto win and with it the overall for the day! Jared Gessner would finish a career best 2nd overall and Paolella would hang on for a 3rd overall.

The Pro-Am Moto 1 holeshot would go to the J-Rod Racing AGX Designs Yamaha piloted by Jared Gessner, followed closely by Preston Young on his Dasa Powered Walsh Racecraft Honda and Team Southside Polaris Gravely Mowers entry of Cody Paolella. Young and Paoella would move past Gessner pushing him back to 3rd. Cody would take the lead from Young, with Young taking it back shortly thereafter.

Farther back in the field, Kyle Paolella would crash hard off one of the downhills; he would be okay and continue through the end of the race. Cody Paolella started experiencing an issue about halfway through the moto and quickly pulled into the mechanics area, relinquishing second to Gessner. Paolella would re-enter the race in 3rd, but would crash hard approximately 30 feet from where his brother crashed only a couple laps earlier. This would move teammate Ryan Dupont into 3rd. Young would take the moto 1 win, Gessner in second, and Dupont third.

Moto 2 would have J-Rod Racing PEP ATV Innovations Yamaha of Gessner getting the moto 2 holeshot with Team Southside Polaris Spy Optic Engine Ice entry of Ryan Dupont in second and Cody Paolella in 3rd. Paolella would end up off the track allowing Gessner to take 3rd. Cody would fall back to 8th place.

Preston would make his way up through the field to take the lead from Gessner. He gapped Gessner by a couple of seconds. Cody started to make his way up through the field moving past back into the 5th position behind his brother Kyle.

With just over a lap to go, Young would have a mechanical issue allowing Gessnerto re-take the lead and go on to win the moto. This was Gessner’s first moto win in the Pro-Am class. Young would barely hold on to 2nd with a hard charging Cody Paolella less than a half second behind him coming home 3rd.
