About halfway through the first lap, Miller pulled
ahead of Connell and began to put time between
himself and the rest of the pack. Miller, seemingly
on fire, built up an 11 second lead on the second
and third places of Connell and Pelchat. The rocky
terrain and hot weather didn’t bother Miller
as he lead the race for all eight laps. “
I’m feeling excellent, never felt better,
the heat wasn’t an issue, I felt like I
was home!” Said Miller after the race. “
I got the fourth gate pick this morning and my
bike ran perfect all day, the Goldspeed tires
really hooked up and my motor pulled strong on
all the hills.”

Jason Connell was fighting hard with Richard Pelchat
for second place much of the first half of the
race. But on the later leg of lap 5 disaster struck
as Pelchat chased Connell down “Suicide
Hill”, Richard flipped his Can-Am resulting
in a stuck thumb throttle that needed repair before
he could refire his quad. This allowed Joe Haavisto
and Yamaha racer Jasmin Plante to go past in pursuit
of Connell. Jason poured on the coal and held
second place for the remaining three laps. Michael
Pilotte dropped out of contention during lap four
due to mechanical issues.

finish in Moto One

This is Jason’s best finish in his Pro career
and feels great about the progression that he
is making. “ My luck is finally turning
around, my first race on this brand new Honda
that we just put together last week and I didnt
make a single mistake during the race, I got the
2nd gate pick this morning, got the holeshot,
and I can’t say enough about my Elka suspension!”
Jason said after Pro Moto one.
The two-time defending champ, Joe Haavisto would
push his DS450 to a third place finish after the
remaining four laps of the eight lap race ahead
of Jasmin Plante and KTM mounted Vinny Mofford.
“ To me the track was fast and smooth, I
know it gets really rocky and rough during the
day but I feel better when it’s like that,
and my bike was running great even in the heat”
Haavisto commented afterward.
