Lempster, NH - Although Kawasaki’s
Joe Haavisto wrapped up the 2009 New England ATV
Motocross Series Pro Championship at round eleven,
DRT’s Mike Pilotte still made a hard charge
taking four holeshots and taking the Open Pro
and Pro-am wins at the season final at Jolly Roger.

The
final round of NEATV-MX would take place
at Jolly Roger. There would be Trick-or-Treating
Saturday night, along with a band, a bonfire,
and smoke shows |
Cold and wet conditions were on hand for the
final round of 2009 but that didn’t dampen
the spirits of those in attendance. The morning
started out a little wet, due to rain the day
before, but began to clear out as the day wore
on.

Motorsports #8 Mike Pilotte would take
the Open Pro moto one holeshot at the
final round of 2009, and would also take
all 4 Open Pro & Pro-Am holeshots
during the day |
The added moisture in the sandy soil seemed
to be a benefit for Mike Pilotte as he grabbed
the Pro moto one holeshot. Pilotte charged hard
and never looked back as he began to pull a
comfortable lead on the rest of the pack. The
number 8 Honda would hold that lead from start
to finish.

Mike Pilotte again took the moto two Open
Pro holeshot at Jolly Roger |
In moto two, Pilotte would again take the hole
shot, which would be his second holeshot out of
four for the day. Although in the lead, Pilotte
would fall back to finish in fourth place, but
his 1-4 finishes bested that of Joe Haavisto and
allowed Pilotte to take the overall win and end
his season in a solid second of the points chase.
“I had a couple of set backs this season
due to a couple of mechanical issues, but overall
everything went well. We worked hard and next
year we plan to take the championship,”
said Pilotte.

Joe Haavisto switched over to #1 plates
for the last NEATV round after securing
the Open Pro championship |
Kawasaki’s Joe Haavisto got off to a slower
start than usual. Haavisto appeared to be in cruise
control as he worked his way to the number five
position before crossing the finish line. In moto
two, Haavisto got a much better start, taking
second in the hole right behind Pilotte. Haavisto
would put on a strong showing and hold off Josh
Creamer and Cody Miller to take the moto win.
Haavisto’s 5-1 earned him the second spot
on the podium for the day. “I’m happy
to have been able to defend my championship again
this year and put Kawasaki on top again. I wrapped
up the championship in the last round so I didn’t
want to go out there and risk getting hurt or
anything like that so I just went out there and
rode smart,” stated Haavisto.
