2015 New East EDT
Rounds 6 & 7 - Busco Beach
Goldsboro, NC (9/4/2015) - The 2015 New East Extreme Dirt Track series held it’s seventh round at the Busco Beach complex as well following round six the day prior. This round, will go down in history, as the Shaun McLemore memorial race. Shaun lost his life in 2014 and everyone in the ATV community knew him as a strong competitor and a genuinely fun person to be around, both on and off the track.

Shaun McLemore Memorial

This was a special round for the NE EDT Racing Series as they held Busco Beach Round 7 in memory of fellow racer Shaun McLemore

The McLemore family was in attendance for this round and stuck around the entire weekend to watch the racing action and celebrate the life of Shaun with friends of the ATV TT world. There was a special plaque made for the event, commemorating Shaun’s life as well so whoever raced at round seven was also able to take home a special memory as a keep for themselves, too.

The NE-EDT also combined it’s efforts this season with the GORS Racing / East Coast UTV series as well to create a good showing for the SxS sport racers along with creating some exciting racing for the spectators. In the Pro 1000 class, it was Mickey Thomas who made the journey from Georgia North to the Busco Beach facility to race and was able to take away the win. While in the Production 1000 class, it was fellow Georgia racer RS Senter with the win and Ja Person taking the win in the Production 900 class.

Mystik Lubricants / Hoosier / Method Race Wheel’s Mickey Thomas had the track and his Polaris dialed into the clay of Busco Beach as he had the early lead during the Pro 1000 main event. Thomas was cut short on his run however as Chris Stegall flipped his machine and the racers had to be lined back up in a staggered-restart. Thomas again launched hard off the line and into the lead as he was followed by #729 Chris Mills. Mills and Thomas battled for the first couple of corners after the restart as Thomas got back into the groove. However, Thomas had other plans and began to gap the rest of the field and outran the pack lap after lap until the checkered flag flew.

CPS Trucking / Rugged Radios / IronHorseMC.com’s Chris Mills had a tough battle on his hands in the form of Thomas who had a better drive and setup for the TT course at Busco Beach. However, Mills is the currently points leader after this round still, after landing on the podium in second place and riding his own race and remaining mistake free for the entire main event.

Mills played his cards smart and trailed Thomas, trying to stick a wheel in here and there but never being able to make a solid clean pass. Regardless, Mills is in it for the long haul this season and remains confident for the rest of the year after another podium finish for himself.

Hoosier / Polaris’ Andy Stegall in back in the points in seventh place overall after round this round, however, he was able to get a great finish for himself on the third step of the podium after a hard-fought battle in the Pro class.

Andy Stegall earned the final spot on the podium in third in the Pro 1000 UTV Class

Stegall pushed his Polaris RZR 1000 to its limit and kept up the pace with Thomas and Mills and remained unbroken and mistake free for the entire contest. This podium pushes Stegall’s points chase a little further up the chain and only sits two points behind sixth place now, held by Jamie McCoy.
