Montreal Supercross ATV Racing
The Texan, Cody Miller, claims Victory for the USA at Montreal

Montreal, Quebec -The 30th anniversary of the Parts Canada/Thor Coors Light Montreal Supercross was held on September 29th and provided plenty of thrills and spills for the 50,000+ fans in attendance. USA’s Cody Miller worked hard to get out in front of the rest of the pack to take 1st place on the podium, while Canadians Greg Gee and Richard Pelchat, grabbed 2nd and 3rd.
#10 Greg Gee (left) & #49 Sage (Right) both signed with CanAm for 2008 with Epic Racing, and the duo made their debut at the Montreal Supercross on the all new 2008 CanAm DS450, and based on the rumor mill, we will be seeing alot of racers making the switch to CanAm DS450 for 2008 from coast to coast

The Montreal Supercross is an annual event that began in 1977 as a dirtbike event. As word of this event spread, attendance at the race began to grow each year. As time went on, more classes were added and in 1986, quads were included in the line up. The Montreal Supercross draws racers from all over the U.S. and Canada. It offers many different vehicle classes including quads, dirtbikes, and even buggies. The variety of racing attracts thousands of spectators each year and as always the quads put on an awesome show for the fans by roosting around corners and skying out on the jumps just as impressively as the dirtbikes. The fans eagerly reciprocate their appreciation of the racers as well. “The fans were awesome. Every time you hit a big jump or passed each other, you could hear a huge uproar; they were loud. It was cool!” Said winner, Cody Miller.

Besides having a huge fan base, another aspect of this event that appeals to the racers, is the track layout. “It was a lot more technical this year.” Said Yamaha’s Cody Miller, in comparison to when he raced the event in 2005. The track has always had some challenging areas, but the design seems to get a little more technical each year. “The track was pretty good. It had a some big jumps and a couple of triples”. Stated Epic/Can-Am’s Greg Gee. Greg, who recently signed on with the Epic/Can-Am team was pretty happy with how his new ride is performing despite those big jumps. “We’ve been doing a lot of testing and trying to dial in the shocks. They still need a little fine tuning, but overall it worked really good.” Said Greg.

#91 Jasmin Plante grabbed the Holeshot and lead for the 1st lap before casing the triple, which sidelined him for the remainder of the race

When the gate dropped, Jasmin Plante was first out of the hole followed by Greg Gee and Richard Pelchat. A pile up in the first corner slowed up fellow racers Sage Baker, Hunter Miller and Joe Haavisto. Cody Miller had somewhat of a mediocre start that landed him in 6th out of the hole, but Cody didn’t waste any time picking off riders until he was in fourth place.

Meanwhile, Plante was doing a great job in the lead, despite pressure from Pelchat, until he came upon a menacing triple with a tricky landing. Plante cased the jump and injured his knee badly enough for him to pull off the track, ending things early for him. That same triple claimed seven more victims throughout the course of the ATV race including Pelchat. “I was leading the race and I came up about three inches short on that triple and got bucked off and over the bars.” He said remorsefully.

#1 Richard Pelchat held a significant lead by the 4th lap, but a dismount on the triple, which claimed several riders through the event, sent Pelchat back to 5th Place

Pelchat’s unexpected dismount allowed Gee, Cody Miller, Casey Martin, and Aaron Meyer to slip by. With Pelchat back in 5th place, it set the scene for an intense battle for 1st place between Greg Gee and Cody Miller who exchanged positions several times, much to the delight of the screaming fans. “Greg and I were battling it out for first and second for probably four laps. We passed each other back and forth several times over a triple jump in the back, and then one lap I took a different line than he was anticipating and passed him over the triple jump.” Miller explained.

While Miller and Gee were busy vying for position, Pelchat was busy trying to work his way back up to the front, and soon over took Martin and Meyer. Richard, who had the fastest lap time during practice, was gaining on Gee and Miller, but unfortunately wasn’t able to catch them in time. “I was catching up on the leaders, but finished a few seconds behind. I was fast and I finally got a podium there.” Stated the French-Canadian racer. Pelchat went on to claim 3rd place, under 2nd place Gee and 1st place Miller. Ohio racer Aaron Meyer took 4th place while Hunter Miller made a strong showing in 5th place.
