Jeremy
Schell earns his first Win of the Year,
which goes along with his five previous
Podium finishes this season |
Tulare, CA -
The Tulare Cycle Park played host to an action packed
ninth round of the ITP Quadcross this past weekend.
While problems in the first moto kept points leader
Kory Ellis from the podium this weekend, Landon
Hurst had an impressive run, taking the number one
spot in the first moto, and claiming the overall
win, while Dustin Nelson made an impressive comeback
after a 4 month absence from his crash in London,
KY on Father’s day that left him with a broken
femur.
When the gate dropped for the first moto, Ellis,
who is not necessarily known for getting the holeshot,
was in the lead around the first corner, with
Landon Hurst hot on his heels. The track was a
little narrower than what most ITP regulars are
use to at tracks such as Glen Helen and SpeedWorld
MX Park and could have been a contributing factor
to a pile-up in the second corner that helped
to slow up Jeremy Schell and Dustin Nelson, who
were in the top five out of the gate. “I
was 4th in the holeshot and got tangled up with
Dustin and a couple other riders in the first
turn, which put me back into something like 8th
place.” Said Schell. Luckily, Schell and
Nelson both came away from their encounter with
only minor scrapes and bruises and were soon back
on their quads.

Kory
Ellis grabbed the Holeshot & lead for
several laps before a flat tire sent him
back to a 11th place Moto One finish |
Dustin
Nelson was back in action for the first
time since breaking his femur at the WPSA
Wreck back in June |
In the mean time, Ellis had checked out on the
rest of the pack, but his lead would not last
long. “I had gotten the holeshot and was
doing great until about the 3rd lap when I ended
up getting a flat tire.” Stated a disappointed
Ellis. “I still kept riding because I wanted
to at least finish for the points.” He concluded.
Kory’s unfortunate circumstances sent him
back to 11th place for the first moto.

#79
Landon Hurst held on to claim the first
Moto Win |
While Ellis was stuck limping his quad at the
back of the pack for the rest of the moto, Schell
and Nelson were battling their way back up to
the front, feverishly picking off riders one by
one. Nelson fought his way up and made the pass
for 5th place during the last lap. Schell managed
to stay ahead of Nelson for the first moto. “I
rode hard and worked my way back up to second.”
Said Schell. Unfortunately, Jeremy was unable
to catch Hurst before the checkered flag was waved.
Ellis, Schell and Nelson all faired much better
in the second moto. Schell was first out of the
hole with Ellis in second, and Hurst and Nelson
right behind him. “Jeremy was leading until
about the 4th lap when I was finally able to get
around him.” Ellis said. Kory kept pulling
away to a comfortable 3-second lead on the rest
of the pack.

Justin Noss 3-4 was barely enough to edge
out Landon Hurst for his first Podium finish
of the year with 3rd Overall |
Nelson who was in fourth behind Hurst was pushing
hard and waiting for Hurst to make a mistake.
Dustin finally got his chance in the 4th lap,
slipping by Hurst and making a charge for Schell.
Nelson caught up to Schell and went for the pass
in the 5th lap, putting him in 2nd place. Nelson
pressed hard and eventually got to within about
one second of Ellis, but ran out of time before
he could go for a pass. When the dust had settled,
it was Jeremy Schell who claimed the number one
spot on the podium, followed by Dustin Nelson
in second and Landon Hurst in third.
