Kory Ellis claims 5th Win of the Season on his

San Bernardino, CA - Another
perfect sunny day set the scene for round #7 of the ITP
Quadcross held at Glen Helen Raceway. The track set up
was the same as it had been for the last couple of races.
“It was fast but not too technical” according
to Josh Frederick who, despite a self-described “terrible
start” in the second moto, placed 4th overall.
Although John Shafe pulled the holeshot in both motos,
it didn’t take long before points leader, Kory
Ellis had him in his sights. “It took a little
while to catch up, but I made the pass on the 3rd or
4th lap and I just pulled away.” Stated Ellis.
Kory ended his day with an impressive 1-1 finish, while
Shafe joined him on the podium with a respectable 2nd
place overall.
Rounding out the podium in 3rd place was Jeremy Schell.
Jeremy has been dealing with severe arm pump in his
last couple of races. “ I changed my workout routine
and added some weightlifting.” Which was apparently
a big mistake according to Schell. “I haven’t
had arm pump in ten years…it sucks!” He
exclaimed. However Jeremy is taking measures to reduce
his arm fatigue. “I’ve laid off the weights
and have been doing lots of cardio and riding whenever
I can, and just trying to ride it out.” He said
resolutely.
While the Pro class had plenty of excitement, the Open
Pro class had its moments as well. One of those moments
in particular was the start of the second moto. While
everyone else raced for the holeshot when the gate dropped,
Kory Ellis just sat at the line and waited for everyone
else to negotiate the first turn before putting the
hammer down. Once Kory caught up, he began picking off
riders one by one until he was in the lead, however
that lead would not last as Doug Eichner made the pass
on his Polaris Outlaw during the last lap taking the
lead. Ellis finished a very close 2nd while Darrel Patton
took the 3rd position on the podium putting him in second
place for overall series points in the Open Pro class.
Ellis’s delayed start at the gate was not due
to mechanical issues or anything of the sort, but was
simply by choice. According to Ellis, coming up from
behind and working his way through the pack is much
better practice for him than starting out in front.
The reason for him wanting to practice so hard is because
Kory will be racing in the Invitational Steel City,
PA Bike National on August 24th-26th, which will be
the first time professional quad racers will be allowed
at this event and given the opportunity to show their
skills in front of the bike industry big wigs.
The next race of the ITP Quadcross series will be an
interesting one as well, as it is a night race held
at Speedworld in Arizona on September 29th. With there
being such close contention in points for the Pro and
Open Pro classes, and a “double points”
series final in December, it’s still to soon to
speculate as to who will come out on top at the end
of this season.
